Re: Administrative User & Its Permissions.

Frankly, forget the Hibernate thing right now. I'll help you with that later.
Getting your basic installation and disk partitioning working is more to the point.
    Although those two connect: also...

Re: Administrative User & Its Permissions.

Most likely you selected automatic partitioning during install.
The Lubunutu installer will in that case only make a / partition that contains everything.
    You should have selected manual...

Re: Swap partition/file in new install

    @pslacker:
the problem is, that you apparently want an LVM/Encrypted install.
    I don't know why.
But no installer on earth can help you here, you're on your own, sorry. So don't moan about...

Re: Lubuntu - root password at install time?

The Username and Password entered during Lubuntu installation is for the "main" user who has sudo permissions.
A normal $HOME directory tree will be set up for this user with "root" permissions.

Re: Swap partition/file in new install

I'm confused. Is this a VM setup or a real install?

This reply only applies if it's a real install.

Redo from start, and define the partioning first (in your mind or on paper).

    During...

    Re: 32bit download

    Last 32-bit distribution is 18.10
For a laptop that old, you'll probably need Lubuntu 18.04 or 18.10 (careful: first is LXDE, which is no longer supported, the second is LXQt, which is fully...

First you need to get the upgrades.
Then you need to run the upgrades.

[ubuntu] Re: Excessive battery drain on suspend

Well, at least dconf reset -f / should have cured the setting files problem.

Is your machine is actually suspending or just blanking the screen? I have no experience with Dell Vostro, but on HPs...

[ubuntu] Re: Excessive battery drain on suspend

This is a bad idea. The hidden settings files in $HOME are in a lot of cases hardware dependent, you can't just copy them from one machine to another.

    OK, here it is:

Preferences -> LXQt settings -> Shortcut Keys

You'll find that PrtScr is already there (it's called "Print") Edit it and replace the existing command with:

    Re: Trying Lubuntu 20.04 LTS...

On Lubuntu PrtScr calls up a screenshot program.
If you want the Win-like PrtScr and Alt-PrtScr functionality where screen or window gets copied to the clipboard, you'll need to set it up yourself....

  18. Re: My dad refuses to upgrade his 16.04 laptop

Leave your dad's machine alone. It works perfectly, and with his use of it, I see no perils.
An upgrade would lead to a major shift to LXQt, which would create further problems/frictions.

    I'm...

I'm with guiverc here: if there's something you don't like, just don't use it. Leave it as is, removing things causes more trouble than it's worth.

    Re: Trying Lubuntu 20.04 LTS...

    I'm running Lubuntu since 2019 and I like it a lot! 18.10, 19.10 and now 20.04 LTS.
It's lightweight and easy to use, but you'll need to throw a bit of Win and Gnome ballast overboard.
