  2. Re: Help me figure out the best distro for someone...

Seems like you want a LTS equivalent distro. If you don't think she would like Ubuntu 12.04 then I would look at Debian stable or a RHEL clone like CentOS, Scientific, PUIAS, etc. That way once you...
  3. Re: Thinking of buying a System 76 Laptop, Wondering If I will be able to install Min

Linux runs on a ton of different hardware and since System 76 is a company that sells Linux products you will be able to run any Linux distro on it.

Re: Has anyone heard of Zenwalk and Dreamlinux?

Netpkg is not a great tool in my opinion. I would definitely checkout Salix and Vector both of which use slapt-get and G-Slapt.

Re: Has anyone heard of Zenwalk and Dreamlinux?

don't buy into the FUD, there is no issue with Slackware's future.
  6. Re: A programmers laptop distro which likes small wm's.

To my ears what you are describing sounds like Slackware would be the answer. A 4gb usb stick is just fine for a usb install. Just have a look at the usb readme...

    Re: OpenSUSE won't install updates

Using zypper should not be thought as obscure commands for someone who has chosen to use opensuse anymore than apt is obscure for someone using a debian-based system.

    Re: OpenSUSE won't install updates

I never said RTM to the OP nor did I assume it makes sense to him. I did provide the OP a guide to help administer his/hers/friends system. The instructions aren't obscure but are in fact specific...

    Re: OpenSUSE won't install updates

Based off that message you don't have the games repo for 12.1 enabled, you have the games repo for 11.3. 11.3 went end of life January 20th, 2012 and would be the reason why it cannot reach that...

From what you posted previously you did not enable the games repo. Make sure you have the games repo enabled for the version you are running and then update your system.

  19. Re: How to install Damn Small Linux in hard drive

I would stay away from DSL, it is dead as can be so you won't get any further security updates.

Vector Linux light edition is a good choice for that hardware.

Re: Which Slackware based distro to download

Personally I would skip the derivatives and just try Slackware. If you don't want to do that then SalixOS, Vector, Absolute, and Zenwalk are all good.
