Having the same problem...
Turns out that if I lower my volume to a whisper then the static clears and i can hear the sounds... raising the volume above a whisper turns the sound to complete static...

The sound on my ubuntu 12.04 was working perfectly and then suddenly stopped. Now everytime there is sound to be made I get a steady stream of static. I was confident that a reboot would clear...
I thought that I'd mention that I successfully created a new account and I have the same problem... the system will not allow me to login to the new account.

Why in the world are you setting up BIND. This is absolutely not necessary... more importantly DNS is not easy to setup. You have your domains registered with Godaddy... they have a great DNS...
