If I understood you correctly, replacing vbox with the oracle version wouldn't require resetting up of the application within vbox?
Ok. But what I am having a hard time getting my mind around is that I am using the latest LTS version of Xubuntu and I only installed virtualbox a couple months ago. Now you are telling me it's...
Found this which seems to address the issue.
https://akyriako.medium.com/solve-virtualbox-problems-after-upgrading-to-latest-linux-kernel-on-ubuntu-22-04-7e0ddb2c2c89
Seems problematic that an...
jim@jim-myth:~$ uname -r
6.2.0-37-generic
jim@jim-myth:~$ lsmod | grep 'vb'
vboxnetadp 28672 0
vboxnetflt 32768 1
vboxdrv 638976 3 vboxnetadp,vboxnetflt
I checked in Xubuntu if secure boot is enabled.
mokutil --sb
SecureBoot disabled
Host system is Xubuntu 22.04. It is an EFI install. Application within virtual box is Home Assistant which comes with it's own OS. Will have to look into secure boot.
Hardware is Dell SFF...
Did update/upgrade first for good measure. Then did those things. No change - same error on reboot.
That is a solution so thanks. But I would rather fix the existing installation. Seems like the version from the repositories should be usable and I wouldn't have to reinstall the things in it.
Had trouble adding view of error so trying again..
Have Xubuntu 22.04 with virtualbox from the distribution repositories. It works but has started giving an error when the PC is rebooted. I did
sudo apt install virtualbox-dkms
but got that...
Set audio to hdmi rather than default in mythtv front end which is the main use and seems to work at least at the moment. Will see how this works for a while. I have thought it was fixed several...
Well, thought it was fixed but it's not. AGAIN! but when I ran speaker-test from the command line the sound went to the TV and after that the sound worked as desired (until I turn off the tv for a...
Adding intel_iommu=on,igfx_off to the grub line seems to fix it. So to force output to the HDMI port even when the tv is off my complete line is:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash...
Thought the problem was fixed but the audio shifted back to the PC internal speaker when the tv was off for an extended period. At least the video is still working well.
I used a program to save the edid from the TV and added the edid.bin file to the grub line. This solved my video and audio issues.
used read-edid to save edid from the tv which included the audio in that the generic resolution edid file did not. Then put the link to that in the grub line. Now I have video and sound. Had to...
But for some reason now I don't have audio selection for the HDMI output so no sound on the TV....
Hmmm...
I have X11 not wayland.
updated the grub line and it seems to work! I am going to give it a couple days to really tell though because I have thought I had it before.
Excellent! I missed that...
I will double check if I am using wayland tonight when I get back to the machine. It's whatever is the default in xubuntu 22.04.
Thanks jawilljr2! Some of the solutions I found weren't clear on exact syntax and what file to put the edits into so the example is very helpful. Such as drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware related stuff....
I have Wayland. xrandr seems to work ok at getting the possible resolutions but maybe some functions don't work. Not opposed to changing that though if it isn't too difficult. Starting to think...
I spoke a bit too soon. I have MythTV front end (playback screen for DVR) automatically starting at boot and it starts now full screen as desired but when I exit to the normal desktop the resolution...
Finally solved this with a custom edid file as detailed in another thread:
