    [ubuntu] Re: command not found?

Does the file extension end in .exe or .msi?
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Encrypt External HD and Flash Drives (already filled w/data)

What I would do is copy all the data off the drive, and then create encrypted partitions with LUKS (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EncryptedFilesystemHowto3). I've done it and it works great. ...

[ubuntu] Re: ubuntu why u no boot etc

Holy crap dude, its called a "period." Anyways, my douchiness aside, what does your grub configuration look like? If you are using grub2 you could try update-grub (or is it update-grub2?). If this...

    [kubuntu] Re: Newbie RAID question

Why not just install ubuntu and then create the Raid? Seems like less hassle (I doubt the quoted method would work. It might, but it might not)

    [kubuntu] Re: Newbie RAID question

Raid 10 requires a minimum four drives. You're only feeding it two.

[ubuntu] Re: Mounting RAID hard drives

Have you manually tried to mount md0 (mount /dev/md0p1 /media/some_folder)?

what does your fstab look like?

    Edit:
Did you create a partition on the raid? (the p1). Fdisk says there is no...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: External Hard Disk is not getting detected !! :( :(

I forgot to add, only plug the drive directly in when the computer is OFF!
  8. [ubuntu] Re: External Hard Disk is not getting detected !! :( :(

I can try. Inside the enclosure is a SATA (or if its really old an IDE) hard drive. I'll assume your drive is SATA (SATA being the type of connection or plug that the drive has on it). So if you...

[10466.081381] Buffer I/O error on device sdb, logical block 120

Sounds like the drive died. You said that this drive also fails on windows? If it fails on another computer, it is for sure dead....
  10. [ubuntu] Re: External Hard Disk is not getting detected !! :( :(

USB3 is backwards compatible. Shouldn't be an issue
  11. [ubuntu] Re: External Hard Disk is not getting detected !! :( :(

Ok, your computer does see the external encloser. strange it doesn't see it as a drive though (something is very wrong). what is the output of dmesg if you unplug the drive, and plug it back in?
  12. [ubuntu] Re: External Hard Disk is not getting detected !! :( :(

    No worries dude! :)

As for the drive, something is very amiss. Your system isn't seeing it at all. What is the output of lsusb?
  13. [ubuntu] Re: External Hard Disk is not getting detected !! :( :(

While I agree the more details the better, there is a thing called tact.

Anyways, with the drive plugged in, what are the results of

    sudo fdisk -l

    and

[ubuntu] Re: Samba no longer follows symbolic links

that is very clever. Doing it in samba (as far as I understand) only creates a security hole if you have admins who do stupid things. If you (or an admin) creates a sym link to dangerous areas yes...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Best way to make my computer bootable again

You might be able to use testdisk to restore that partition. I'd boot off a live cd, install testdisk and cross your fingers

    [ubuntu] Re: Linux Netbook

First off, you can't build your own netbook. Nobody supplies parts for doing that. As for the GUI, I'd go with gnome 3.

If there was a comment rating system here, I'd upvote this twice.

Also seawolf, if you find that link for restoring the windows mbr through linux that would be extremely useful to me.

[other] Re: Win 7 computer doesn't boot at all
