Most of the binaries are stored in /usr/bin, /bin, or /usr/local/bin.
EDIT: Whoops did not read the first part.
Have you tried restoring the firmware?
Linux brandon-laptop 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_ << It cut off right here. It looks like you have a 64 bit processor. Did you install 64-bit Ubuntu?
You do not have to do it in the terminal.
Go to System >> Preferences >> Display.
Oh I see. You are using Debian repositories. Unfortunately, Debian repos do not play nice with Ubuntu and are generally rejected. Remove the repository.
Also, you want Opera it seems. Download...
sudo apt-get -f update
As it says at the bottom.
Intel wifi cards work wonders.
Thread is dead. He is trying to connect to the modem via USB because the Ethernet port is completely shot on the old lappy. However, since there is no drivers available for the modem's USB...
Only thing I can add is that Gnash cannot play anything that requires over Flash 7. Youtube works fine with this. It might be better at unintrusive software, but if you visit sites requires something...
OK, hope your son has fun! :D
You could keep toying with those values until we get optimum resolution and quality. Try upping the color depth to 24 first.
Huh... Ok, one last shot. Change both the DefaultDepth and Depth value to 16 and the Modes section to only "800x600".
It may look crappy, but that's because you monitor's a POS.
edit: It also...
The problem is that most modem's USB drivers are proprietary and not provided for Ubuntu. I am sorry man, but no amount of Googling helped me find a good way to connect via USB to your 2wire set up....
Set the screen section of your xorg to look like this.
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "S3 Inc. 86c775/86c785 [Trio 64V2/DX or /GX]"
...
OH I did not read that it was a USB connection, my bad.
Try following these instructions:
http://ubuntu-unleashed.com/?s=2wire
EDIT: Go up to sudo iwconfig and stop there. There should be no...
Probably means that the resolution is out of range of the display. What does your monitor accept for a resolution?
Probably because the Install disk had the ssh server on it and did not...
Yes, the /media or /mnt folder is where all mounted storage goes. It is not in the root ('/') folder
lspci
Do that command in the terminal and post it here.
How hot? Well, let's set it on fire and find out ;)
Ah OK.
Then:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-s3
That is the driver for your s3 card.
Project is to install Debian on an old computer?
Section "Device"
Identifier "S3 Inc. 86c775/86c785 [Trio 64V2/DX or /GX]"
Driver "s3"
BusID "PCI:0:13:0"
EndSection
It's saying that you are...
Another thing to check:
lspci -k | grep Network -A 3
Post that here as well.
