    See https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/191977/how-can-i-find-the-package-that-contains-a-program-in-debian

[ubuntu] Re: bash: cal: command not found

cal isn't it's own package thus why it doesn't have an install option of it's own,
it should be part of the bsdmainutils package.

    Re: Passphrase

    No.
The only encryption offered on install is full-disk, done when you select the partitioning layout.
Home encryption has been removed as an option at install

Re: Failed upgrade; lost Desktop files

Are the files still in ~/Desktop? It's unclear if you lost the files on the Desktop or the Desktop folder itself.
BTW, that command doesn't upgrade releases on it's own, you'd only be able to do...
  5. Re: Updates to the older version of Kernel, despite using the latest kernel 5.4.1, ho

Shouldn't be any need to patch, just grab the next stable kernel when it comes and install it.
The difference between what you are doing and installing the new kernels from Ubuntu is Ubuntu tells...

[xubuntu] Re: lightdm spinning up a user login

Which part do you want to know more about what's going on,
before the login screen or after the login-screen?
  7. Re: Updates to the older version of Kernel, despite using the latest kernel 5.4.1, ho

    sudo apt purge linux-generic linux-image-generic linux-headers-generic
You may or may not have linux-generic and/or linux-headers-generic installed. But you will have at least linux-image-generic...

[xubuntu] Re: lightdm spinning up a user login

You could probably look back at how they did it for unity8
See the ppa for that here: https://launchpad.net/~unity8-desktop-session-team/+archive/ubuntu/unity8-preview-lxc
    And here's a reference...

    [ubuntu] Re: update issue

You have duplicate lines in your sources.list.
    post back the sources.list file

    cat /etc/apt/sources.list
to see which are the same.
  10. Re: login problem and can't install software

The message usually means the package manager utility, is already running somewhere.
Only one instance can be running at a time.
It might be Ubuntu has auto-updating enabling and it's installing...

Re: How to access external hdd

Files in the /tmp directory should be viewable without root/sudo/admin just by opening the location in Files, the file manager.

[xfce] Re: Write Cache control not visable

You should never need root to view drive settings in Disks if the drive setting are available.
I'd look at the hdparm information output for the drive

    sudo hdparm -I /dev/mmcblk0p
    I'm guessing...

  16. Re: a new command i am planning to create

I do see it is written in or for python, but it's using (or at least requires) python 2.7
Perhaps try contacting the various developers upstream about working on porting it up to python3.

  18. Re: a new command i am planning to create

It depends on which release. For bionic and older it's backwards, restore-trash.
On A newer release like Eoan it's forward, trash-restore.
Though the man page list it as trash-restore for all...
  19. Re: error: snap "nextcloud-client" not found

From some reason the snap variant no longer exists.

The comments show that removing the cache for it can help.
  21. Re: Cannot find my graphics card on Ubuntu 18.04

Try a different variant of the lspci command

    lspci | egrep "VGA|3D"

Also double check in the machine's BIOS settings that the card is accessibly set to use.

Re: Libre office is non functional

Not sure it's installed if the install is the minimal option.
That option is available (on the Desktop edition installer, btw) during installation and it cuts out a whole bunch of stuff.

If you had the snap version, but don't any longer, then just delete the ~/snap/gimp folder.
You can double check to see if it is indeed not installed with
