  1. Re: install 20.4 alongside win 10 failed with 'grub-install/dev/sda' failed

You can't dual-boot with the Grub menu with the systems installed in different mode.
To boot Windows you need to change the boot mode in UEFI and then it won't boot Ubuntu.
  2. [ubuntu] Re: How do I preserve or recreate my (I think is grub) dual boot

Only one is needed and any of them will give the exact same result. And that result will be "Legacy" for the first and "bios" for the second (same thing) if you use the same USB made with Rufus with...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Invalid Partition Table message when trying to boot from USB

    Welcome.

How exactly did you burn the USB?

And for the sake of accuracy and better understanding moving forward with the troubleshooting, you have UEFI, not BIOS. BIOS and UEFI are both...
  4. Re: Google Chrome full screen mode broken?

Baffling... Intel typically just works, even old ones and yours is only oldish.

Just out of curiosity can you try Chromium?
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Upgrade gone wrong 18.04 to 20.04...

    Try CTRL+ALT+F3
  6. [ubuntu] Re: How do I preserve or recreate my (I think is grub) dual boot

For Windows is basically the same: Backup your data (personal files) and previously download all the required and updated drivers as well as the installers for all the third-party software you need;...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: How do I preserve or recreate my (I think is grub) dual boot

Make sure to redo your USB and if using Rufus either select GPT/UEFI or use DD mode.
As it is now it won't boot once you disable Legacy.
  8. Re: install 20.4 alongside win 10 failed with 'grub-install/dev/sda' failed

    Honestly, it's baffling.

Since 2012 Microsoft requires vendors to install Windows in UEFI mode (where applicable) and UEFI existed in PCs years before that, in Apple machines even older.
    And here...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: How do I preserve or recreate my (I think is grub) dual boot

The MBR setting in Rufus results in media that boots in BIOS/Legacy only. It's because of this confusing settings for newbies that I often recommend DD mode in Rufus or any other tool running DD...
  10. Re: Google Chrome full screen mode broken?

Maybe an kernel or graphics drivers update triggered the problem. BTW, how about posting your hardware specifications, namely the graphics?

    Re: Wine Error

Not all software works with Wine.
  12. [ubuntu_mate] Re: Will System76 pre-install Ubuntu-MATE?

You you checked their website you wouldn't need to ask here.

It's the default PoP!_OS or Ubuntu. You can install anything you want.
  13. [ubuntu] Re: Running Ubuntu on a multi socket x86_64 server

    Exactly!

The premise in the OP is nonsensical.

@rinjo2 - Please post the hardware specifications as complete as you can. The number of CPUs/cores is totally irrelevant.
  14. Re: Existing OS not recognised by live DVD and Scroll Arrows on Ubuntu

Any Windows 8 or newer as Fast Startup (=hibernation) enabled by default. For a dual-boot users must disable it and shutdown before booting the Ubuntu installation media.

    And installation media...
  15. Re: Slow connection via Panda Wireless PAU06

    Welcome.

Old Ralink chipsets or newer Mediatek ones are not the best choice for Linux. The driver works but very likely not as good as the proprietary drivers available for Windows.

    Maybe...
  16. Re: how to create a portable ubuntu usb?

    Welcome.

Just install Ubuntu normally to the USB drive or burn the ISO as "live with persistence".
  17. [UbuntuGnome] Re: Sound stops working on Asus zenbook US 362FA, when booted into ubuntu after windo

    Welcome.

Please try disabling Fast Startup in Windows followed by a shutdown.
    Then boot Ubuntu and test.
  18. [kubuntu] Re: Original Windows installation to avoid warranty being voided

You're confusing support requirements with warranty.

Typically, in consumer line of products, only one OS version is supported, the one bundled/preinstalled. Professional, servers and whatnot...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: How do I preserve or recreate my (I think is grub) dual boot

In BIOS/Legacy installations dual-booting with Windows 10 is often a problem when Windows install those lengthy updates that require one or more reboots. So, make sure that Windows Fast Startup is...

[ubuntu] Re: Grub - Add windows

Seems fine but, again, only 1 or 2MB is enough. Anything larger is a waste of space.
  21. [Zorin] Re: How Can I Install Realtek 2.5gbe Driver in Ubuntu for My M/B Network Card

What drivers are you trying to install (link)?
    The command seems (very) wrong...
  22. [ubuntu] Re: How do I preserve or recreate my (I think is grub) dual boot

Most people installing Ubuntu ONLY will have no trouble either.
The "trouble" comes when people want to dual-boot for which another set of knowledge/skills is really required, there's no way around...
  23. [SOLVED] Re: Is there any (easy) recovery tools from unsuccessful upgrade

    Recapitulating...
This all started because you decided to do a release upgrade that wasn't urgent, 18.04 is supported until 2023!
That failed for reason we may discuss latter on this post without...
  24. [ubuntu] Re: How do I preserve or recreate my (I think is grub) dual boot

    Not really.
With some luck it actually saves some people from themselves and future readers benefit from the implicit warnings.
  25. [ubuntu] Re: How do I preserve or recreate my (I think is grub) dual boot

Obviously you need to change the order back to the drive where Grub is installed and that should be done BEFORE reinstalling Ubuntu otherwise it'll will replace the Windows bootloader in the other...
