    The OS you are booting can be on a different disk entirely than the ESP's disk. That's illustrated in the first display of post #6.

    This is no longer true in all cases. If you have an NVMe drive and a SATA drive, Ubiquity will install grub boot loader to the ESP of the drive you select - sda or NVMe. I discovered this back in May...
