    Re: Kernel 5.11

I see the mainline PPA builds are broken again:

    DEPMOD 5.11.0-051100rc1-generic
Warning: 'make modules_install' requires depmod. Please install it.
This is probably in the kmod package.

  2. Re: Failed Mainline and Development Kernel Builds at kernel.ubuntu.com

seems to be missing the kmod package (the amd64 build, at least):

Warning: 'make modules_install' requires depmod. Please install it.
This is probably in the kmod package.
  3. [server] Re: Stability of package versions during LTS release lifespan

those are typically referred to as micro-releases and are covered in the Ubuntu SRU wiki.
    see also here.
  4. [SOLVED] Re: Ubuntu OpenVPN Gateway - IPTABLES and Routing Mutiple Subnets through the VPN

Your iptables rules listing does not match your actual iptables rules. Please fix, showing the last OUTPUT unconditional DROP rule. Then add a logging rule just before that rule so that you will get...
  5. [server] Re: How to uninstall a program, package and/or service.

There is a lot of good information in this thread. Myself, I don't think it'll make any difference to your root issue. Anyway, if you still have high fan speed after you re-install, start a new...
  6. Re: Failed Mainline and Development Kernel Builds at kernel.ubuntu.com

thank you for the back story.

Oh, I trust you. I just finished something similar myself. However, I don't want to mess with my setup because it is such a hurried hack job. It might fall apart if I...
  7. Re: Failed Mainline and Development Kernel Builds at kernel.ubuntu.com

hi, and welcome to Ubuntu forums.

we always have a development kernel release candidate thread going herein, this issue has been noted there.

mainline kernel build failures are occurring much...
  8. Re: Can't alter transparent_hugepage file in sys

Actually, that command will not work, because the redirection portion ends up without elevated privileges:

    doug@s18:~/test_kernels$ sudo echo never > /sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/enabled...

    Re: Kernel 5.10

I have been using a self compiled kernel 5.10-rc7 for a few days now. I only now noticed that the Ubuntu PPA version failed to compile.

Re: Keep away massive SSH login attempts

The simple iptables "recent" module method hasn't been mentioned on this thread yet (mentioned it many times on these forums).
Someone attempting to log in gets 3 tries, then they, and any other IP...

    Re: Kernel 5.10

I am a server type, and so use "wget" to get the mainline kernel .deb files. I copy and paste the links from a browser on a windows computer and into a putty ssh session to the server. I do a lot of...

    Re: Terrible network transfer speeds

    Yes, agree.

As much for my own interest, as contributing to this thread, I did the same tests: Host = Debian server; bridge manually setup using networkd (I do not use netplan); VM IP address is...

    Re: Kernel 5.10

Kernel 5.10-rc5 is available. Either there are build problems for the Ubuntu mainline PPA, or it isn't finished yet [edit: It simply wasn't finished yet]. I used the Ubuntu kernel configuration from...

    Re: Kernel 5.10

The mainline is only updated once per week, but the dailies are as of that day. So consider the dailies as kernels 5.10-rc4-1 through 7. There are also a couple of sort of "main" git sources, that...

    Hi zika,
I compiled mainline as of just now (kernel 5.10-rc3 plus a few tens of patches (I didn't count)):

    Re: Kernel 5.10

Gee, the mainline builds have been breaking more often than normal over the last 1/2 year.

I was able to compile the kernel myself, but haven't run it yet.
I do see the issue has already been...
  18. Re: Set screen to turn off after time. Command line not desktop.

    O.K. sounds right.

    It looks O.K. to me.

I think it should be 1 per kernel, plus 1 repeated for the default kernel. I get a bit different, but think it is a red herring. I have 30 kernels...
  19. Re: Set screen to turn off after time. Command line not desktop.

A few years ago, the screen used to default to turning off after a few minutes. Now it defaults to staying on all the time. To restore the original behavior, you can add a timeout to your grub...

[SOLVED] Re: sudo fails and Kernel bug

It is actually pretty trivial to try, but O.K. Watch for kernel 5.4.0-44.48 (= mainline 5.4.55), which has been in proposed since August 10th, and so should be out soon. It will have the fix.

Re: Kernel 5.9 RC (Release Candidate) series

Within the intel_pstate CPU frequency scaling driver, and for new enough processors (>= 6th gen (A.K.A Skylake)), HWP (HardWare Pstate) control offloads the actual work into the processor itself.
