Re: I miss you, Ubuntu brown

I was fond of the brown too, but the Lucid default theme was the first default theme I actually kept around for a while.

I think the new Maverick default will be one of the most professional...

    [ubuntu] Re: Mac software

I know it's not quite the same, but I wanted to Mozilla Songbird is the closet thing to an iTunes competitor I've seen on any platform. They've discontinued Linux support, but Nightingale aims to...
  4. Poll: Re: What Do You Think Of Ubuntu's 10.10 Software Center And The Ability To Purchase A

Everyone freaking out about proprietary software displacing FOSS... I think we can all agree that there's a ton of proprietary software for Windows... but people still use FOSS programs like Firefox...

Re: I tried out the iPad today

Not crazy about the iPad, but I want to play devil's advocate here; you could argue the same for personal computers. Way back when they were first introduced, no one really needed them, and many...
  6. Re: Am I the only one who finds windows users approach to security weird?

I think what inobe's saying is that Microsoft knows how to fix the security flaws of their OS, but that fixing them all at once in one release would provoke the rather large anti-virus corporations;...
  7. Re: Am I the only one who finds windows users approach to security weird?

    Nice! :D
  8. Re: Whats the main big diffrence with ubuntu and fedora?

At the risk of getting horribly off-topic, I'd have to say the rudest community I've seen is OpenSUSE's. :P
  9. Re: I would caution anyone against choosing ext4 when you install ubuntu.

Ext4 has been great for me personally. That being said, I'd say this:

On one hand, ext4 is fine for desktop use, IMO.

On the other, you have a great point; Google's infrastructure is greatly...
  10. Re: Whats the main big diffrence with ubuntu and fedora?

Fedora's open source drivers don't suck. :lolflag:

Basically, while Ubuntu is an attempt at a stable, easy to use desktop system based on Debian and aimed at the 'mainstream user', Fedora is the...
  11. Re: Am I the only one who finds windows users approach to security weird?

No, but every change to the package has to be signed with a special key; only trusted maintainers would be able to do that.
  12. Re: Am I the only one who finds windows users approach to security weird?

Packages have to be signed; so yes, the repos are safe. :P

I started using Windows again a couple days ago with Win7. UAC makes me feel somewhat safe, but then again I don't know if anyone's coded...

    Why was my thread closed?

Hey guys. I want to say that many times I respect the work that goes into moderating this site, but I'm absolutely stumped here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1557944

    I'll admit, I...

    Re: linux complex

    Hello, Locutus of Borg. :lolflag:

It depends on the OS. Linux is a kernel... and well, what kernels do is complex. :P

But once again, I assume you're talking about operating systems, and once...

    Re: My netbook can't boot!

It sounds like you need to reinstall the Windows Bootloader.

    Then run EasyBCD. Click the...
