Hi,
I use Alt + F11 to make games and terminals fullscreen. However, as of 14.10, a fullscreen window is now always on top, which prevents me from quickly Alt-Tab-ing.
It makes it very hard to...
Seems to work, not the best solution though, I'd rather have the proper engine installed, but I don't know which.
Hi,
Qt programs don't seem to have a theme engine installed after upgrading to 14.10 today. It makes all Qt applications ugly.
Wallpaper is black, but it is no longer black when you force a...
Hi, fresh install of Xubuntu 13.04.
I used "sudo nvidia-xconfig" after installing nvidia-319 from the xorg-edgers PPA. I added "Option "CoolBits" "4"" to the "Device" section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf...
I have an HDD formatted using MBR, I'd like to migrate its / and /home partitions to the SSD (which will probably use GPT to align partitions) then edit the /etc/fstab so that it boots properly on...
So I've copied my /home and /, but the /home landed in a directory named "old-home" in the SSD's /home partition. And of course, the SSD refuses to boot.
Hi, I currently have a 2TB HDD and a 256GB SSD (Samsung 840 Pro to be exact).
I installed Xubuntu 12.10 (64 bit) on the SSD, then I tried to copy my whole /home directory to it. Once I rebooted, I...

Nope, your fans are running at that speed for a reason. Slowing them down will likely result in an overheat.
lol'd at the Quadro 5400M. :D
nouveau is a waste of money, better use intel (similar performance and at least you're not paying for a dedicated graphics card, also uses less power and makes less noise).
BTW: why did you choose...
"mobile" Internet can be faster (at the cost of greater latencies) than the "normal" Internet you get with a router at home. By the way I'd be happy if I had 900kB/s, I only have 400kB/s. ;)
Was...
Encryption slows down stuff a lot though.
The Xfce terminal can do that (and you can install it in any desktop environment), install the "xfce4-terminal" package.
You can uncheck "Format?" when selecting the /home partition.
The easy way (not always possible): go to your BIOS/UEFI menu after booting your laptop and check if you can disable the integrated (or dedicated -- I get to laugh at the 630M) graphics card.
The...
sudo apt-get install libssl-dev libssl0.9.8 libssl1.0.0
This?
Pinguy is not Ubuntu and it's not supported here.
"Bump".
Not only encrypting disks kills performance (on SSDs, this is a waste of money), don't forget 101.698% of people have routers, so they don't need firewalls...
Same thing (NoScript is only for...
Did you install the proprietary driver? It might make video decoding faster.
Also, try a lighter variant of Ubuntu. You don't need to reinstall to switch variants, just type this in a terminal...
Hi,
when shutting down (I disabled the graphical splash screens), I can see the system unmounting partitions. However, the / partition fails to unmount every time I shut down since a few days ago....
Try updating your BIOS from Windows XP maybe?
ASROCK motherboards... :-D
xorg-edgers... it can potentially be unstable. If you use their PPA, I suggest installing what you need, then ignore the PPA updates -- this is what I'm doing for NVIDIA drivers at least.
Is your computer a laptop or a desktop? Which make and model is the keyboard if on a desktop, or the laptop?
Seconded -- it'd be quicker for most people who want to read your document to download LibreOffice instead of whining about you not making your documents in .doc(x) format. :p
