  6. Re: Serious Question - What OS do the astronauts use?

Nope, not heat. They actually have heaters to keep the batteries warm, among other things. Space is coooold.

The real reason they use old hardware is radiation hardening, because there is plenty...

[ubuntu] Re: wipe an external hard drive

I'm curious, are you trying to wipe it so the data can't be read ever ever again, or wipe it just so you can use it?

If its the latter, then you can just install gparted (shows up under System >...
  12. Re: Does anyone listen to an album anymore - except the first time

Yeah, this is true. I do the same thing, except I usually have an album in mind before I go looking through the list.

Or, I'll be thinking to myself, "Self, what I do want to listen to? Man, I...

Re: KDE is faster than GNOME

Can't really judge them on just one distro either.

KDE 4.2 in Slack64 is very quick, 4.3 on Ubuntu felt slower. Same hardware.

What happens when you plug it in (with a card in it)?
  18. Re: What causes a computer speaker to pick up radio signals?

Sounds like something you'd hear on shortwave, which is pretty easy to pickup worldwide.

  20. [ubuntu] Re: Help, I dont have privileges to do anything

Yeah I don't see anything wrong there. *shrug* I guess I'd just go on about my business then. Good luck!
  23. [other] Re: Driver Question (not about Ubuntu/varient)

Sounds like the usb mass storage driver won't load, which is the driver all flash drives use.

What happens when you plug it in?
  24. [ubuntu] Re: Wireless card suddenly UNCLAIMED (Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG)

  25. [ubuntu] Re: Wireless card suddenly UNCLAIMED (Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG)

Hmm thats strange. Does it ever do anything else strange? Maybe the card is a little loose in the slot or something.

The only thing we've done that would change anything is the modprobe stuff,...
