Bump. Anyone? I'm running on an Acer Aspire laptop with onboard sound, Realtek I think, and I followed the multimedia setup thread.
Okay, I'm having issues with getting Yoshini or Hydrogen to produce any sound. I get errors when loading Qjackctl & starting the server. I can run both apps after loading up qjackctl or ardour, but...
OK. I stuck with lightdm, but now I can't even load gnome de. On xfce de now and playing with it. It's pretty different & is taking some getting used to.
okay, I'm installing gnome-shell & I'm at a page that's asking me about display managers...gdm or lightdm, which should I pick?
Right. The randomness I'm referring to is the system-generated UUID, itself. I know it stays the same once it's initially generated, but it generates a random UUID at that point. Gparted had an...
Awesome! Thanks for the help! I got everything up & running with my desired UUID & fstab edited properly. So kubuntu uses the partition's label as the UUID when mounting, and generates a random...
OK so now my question is this, should I install another DE via terminal, will I need to use the uninstall command, or can I leave it as is & will I be able to switch between DEs?
Thanks Dave. I did try that, but got a mounting error when I restarted to test it. The line I put in was:
/dev/sda6 /media/storage ext4 user,fmask=0111,dmask=0000 0 0

I like that timeline chart. I remember a time when I was trying to dabble and decide among Mandrake, Red Hat, or SuSE. I was able to get Mandrake going somewhat with the KDE environment, but there...
VERY informative. Thank you. I couldn't do the system-wide mount, but then I saw a line that directed me into system settings, so I looked in there, and found the option for mounting it under...
Hi guys. I recently installed kubuntu at the suggestion of someone on these forums due to the crashing issues I had when trying to install standard ubuntu. Now I'm also seeing all these other...
Hi guys, seeing as I'm really new to Linux, period, I'm still learning the ins & outs & without much time during the day to do so, which puts me on a slow learning curve. Here's thing: I set up a...
I thought it might be something like that, but I couldn't find anything in the interface. It figures I'd have to do this in command line. Thank God I've had to learn basic chmod when I learned how...
[SOLVED]
Hi all, I recently decided to drop windows from my dual boot & stick with kubuntu 13.04. Here's the thing: with windows I partitioned off the stuff I wanted to save so I can reformat &...
Ok. I'll have to check this out when I get a chance. I dropped windows & reinstalled kubuntu on the merged partitions. :)
Bump. Any other help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)
This did nothing for me. Still on a white background.
I don't have that option. Is this for LightDM in kubuntu 13.04?
Apparently kubuntu 13.04 uses LightDM for it's login screen...
How well does Wine work with Windows programs? I'm looking to drop my dual boot & just stick with kubuntu, but there are still some things I run that are only available in Windows, like SW:TOR &...
Okay, so I installed kubuntu 13.04 and customized everything. The only problem I'm having is changing my login screen background. Apparently kubuntu uses LightDM, and being a newbie, I don't know...
I was offline when I installed, but I connected to my wireless network after installing. I actually posted the original post from that browser that came with kubuntu.
I tried all 3 with no...
[SOLVED] I shut down last night before going to bed and have not had a chance to boot up all day long. I can now get into all app packs & everything else. I neglected to do the first step in fixing...
I can wait for it. Having my fun with Mint for now. :)
hmmm....interesting...ok. I will look into this more tomorrow. I like Mint, don't get me wrong, but the panel (taskbar?) layout still feels too much like older windows to me...Guess I should try a...
Mint's working perfectly fine. I'm actually posting from it right now. Running 14 Nadia MATE version. I actually installed this on the partition I was trying to put Ubuntu on.
I second that motion. Then you won't have to deal with the whole mess of reverting to a single boot. Plus it's like having a brand new system again! :D
