Re: lockal worpress -- setup error

apache does not have the permissions to access the file.

Assuming that your web root is at /var/www/html/wordpress/, execute the following commands to grant the permissions.

    cd...
  2. Re: What should be the permissions for mysql directory?

If you make it 750, members of the mysql group can access the directory.

If you make it 755, then anyone can access the directory.

Warning: This might not be a good idea, any process can...

[server] Re: Setup Ubuntu Server at home

There are a number of file servers you can choose from, samba is one of them. Others prefer an NFS server as it is supposedly faster and less resource intensive.

Re: Advice for OS on acer aspire one 1gb RAM

I am actually running arch linux on one of my ARM boards. Really lightweight distro, especially if you use a lightweight desktop environment such as lxde.
  5. Re: Rainman-like question on 'date' output

Apologies, was too quick to assume that -d changes the format. Have modified my answer above for future users.

[lubuntu] Re: The cursor doesn't appear

Is the interface a GUI or a command line. Do you see pictures or is it black and white?

The mouse will not work in the command line.
  7. Re: An Android App that can turn a micro SD card in into a Ubuntu Live Boot disk?

I would recommend that you check that your PC's BIOS supports booting from an SD card.

Holding down Alt and SysRq then slowly type REISUO.

    No, I am not joking.

    E: Send the SIGTERM...
  9. Re: Rainman-like question on 'date' output

It should not end with a 1

    That is because the
date command is supposed to return the same time.

It would be a nightmare if the date was different depending on which output format you choose....

    Re: Strange output from netstat

Apart from changing the port, you might want to look into using fail2ban or a GeoIP filter, assuming that your users are all logging in from the same country.

Changing the port might result in...

Re: apt-get update is not working

Are you missing the "h" in "http_proxy"?

Do you require a proxy to access the internet?
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Better Option: Ubuntu on Virtual Box, or Running USB Live?

I would recommend running it in virtual box instead of live. Ubuntu does not require a lot of RAM and most CPUs today would have no problems running a guest OS.

One advantage of virtualbox is that...
