    I would suggest installing dvd decrypter and dvd shrink on wine. You can use dvd decrypter to rip to iso, and then dvd shrink to convert the iso (reduce sizes etc) before reburning with dvd decrypter.

    Fan control might be implemented in the bios, if not Id reccoment gkrellm (I think thats what its called). Its got a ton of sensors and little graphs and you can set the fan hysteresis.
