    Upon installing Lubuntu from the desktop CD, the first thing it said was unable to write dconf CRITICAL. /root/.cache/deconf. What to do?

    Put your lubuntu cd in the drive and start up holding down the C key. Install the OS. You will not have 10.2.8 any longer.

    Do a search, at the top of the page. You probably need to amend your xorg file. There are many incantations of this file.

    Don't buy a new Mac to put Linux on it. You are paying about 2000 dollars just for the Mac software. There are companies that sell Ubuntu pre-installed, including Dell. Then you have some support.

    Do you have a Mac OS X disc? If you do, start up your computer, eject the disc, replace that disc with the Mac OS disc and restart. Open disc utility and choose your hard drive as the start up disc....

    I found the installer flawed in 10.04. That is why 8.04 then upgrade to 10.04 was suggested.
