  1. Re: Why does Chrome on Linux seem to still be on the old interface?

Nah, I'm using standard Chrome, not Chromium. I don't use Chromium because some of the extensions that I use don't work well under Chromium. As of right now, I'm using Chrome version 30.0.1599.101.
  2. Why does Chrome on Linux seem to still be on the old interface?

Maybe two weeks ago I got an update for Chrome on my desktop (running Windows 7) that changed quite a few things, most notably the new tab page. However, in that time Chrome has been updated on my...

Re: Multitouch trackpad gestures in Linux

Okay, "synclient -l" works and I cleared all two finger gestures and touchegg started working. It doesn't recognize anything more than two fingers, so I guess my touchpad doesnt support anything more...

Re: Multitouch trackpad gestures in Linux

When I run Touchegg from the terminal, it tells me to make a gesture to see if it is recognized. The problem is that no gesture I make is recognized, not even a tap. Not sure what the deal is.

    Multitouch trackpad gestures in Linux

I just got a lightly used Lenovo ThinkPad X220 for only $200 (it was going to be scrapped despite being in perfect condition) and I love it so far, but I was curious about gesture support in Linux. I...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Disappearing wallpaper and GNOME Shell not working

I might just install Xubuntu instead, though I really wanted to use Unity/GNOME Shell because its more usable on smaller screened devices (at least I think it is). XFCE has been my favorite...
  7. [ubuntu] Disappearing wallpaper and GNOME Shell not working

Today I installed Ubuntu 13.04 on a Lenovo ThinkPad X220. It worked fine at first, but after the first round of updates and rebooting it GNOME Shell seems to have been broken. At first I was able to...
  8. Swap/Page files - Are they really necessary anymore?

These days new computers are coming with more and more RAM out of the box, and 8GB or higher is becoming common. This makes me wonder: are page files/swap areas really necessary anymore? Sure, it's...
  9. Re: Android-Ubuntu compatibility -- Tablet v. Notebook v. Netbook

I don't really have any recommendations for a device, except that my personal preference would be a netbook, but I can say that android devices that are running Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) or higher are...

    [ubuntu] Re: errors with updates

    try "sudo dpkg --configure"
if that doesnt work, try "sudo apt-get install -f"
the first command should fix your problem, though.
  12. [other] Re: Oneiric w/ GNOME-Shell - cant use as hotspot

No, unfortunately, I never did. I've since switched to Xubuntu and no longer have a need for the hotspot feature (I was at school with no wifi in my room). I wish you luck in finding a solution,...

Does anyone run their own home server?

I'm thinking of turning one of my family's old PCs into a media and file server, just for kicks. I haven't been able to get it setup yet (won't boot to the CD for some reason, but Lubuntu installed...

How would I go about doing that? How would I make the switch to alsa? I've never had to mess with any sound configurations in Linux before.

    Re: Xubuntu Appreciation Thread

A lot of people use Xubuntu/XFCE for older hardware with limited resources, but honestly, I think it is great for a lot of other reasons. It doesn't feel as bloated as other desktop environments...
  20. [other] Unable to change windows border theme in GNOME-Shell

For some reason I can't change the window border theme under GNOME-Shell. It seems to be stuck on the Ambiance theme. Most themes I try to use simply don't work and don't change anything or when I...
  21. [other] Re: Flash video in Firefox - colors are way off in videos

EDIT: Nevermind, looks like I found a fix. It seems to be a problem with the newest flash player and nvidia cards, though its more Adobe's fault than nvidia's.
  22. [other] Flash video in Firefox - colors are way off in videos

It seems that for every YouTube video I watch, the colors are way off from what they should be. Everything is just is a very odd color from what would be normal. No issues in Windows on the same...
