  1. [ubuntu] Re: Need Help reviewing summary report from Boot-repair

Most software has updated to 64 bit.
If Steam updated, that would resolve issue.
I think if I really wanted Steam, I would create another install, just for it, so I could have all my other 64 bit...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Need Help reviewing summary report from Boot-repair

I found steam in Ubuntu repository and it shows it wants to uninstall a lot of my software.
And it wants :i386 or 32 bit, so that may be the conflict as I do not have any 32 bit apps installed.
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Need Help reviewing summary report from Boot-repair

Did you update UEFI, which often is requried & then that reset UEFI settings to defaults.
I keep a list for my motherboard as it has multiple settings, some required, some optional that I prefer...
  4. Re: Booting problems with Ubuntu - boot repair failed

Usually best to use same version & flavor to make repairs.

That is often a video issue?
    What video card/chip?

    From live installer:
    lspci -vnn | grep VGA -A 12
    sudo lshw -c display

    #What...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Need Help reviewing summary report from Boot-repair

I have never installed Steam, so do not know what it wanted to uninstall.

Your configuration looks correct for UEFI install.

    What error(s) are you getting?
    What brand/model system? What video...
  6. [kubuntu] Re: Tried to add entry to GRUB, now it's messed up.

You have Ubuntu in UEFI boot mode with gpt partitioning on sda.
But you also have a BIOS boot version of grub in MBR of sda and a bios_grub partition. Looks like you installed twice, once BIOS and...
  7. Re: Booting problems with Ubuntu - boot repair failed

    Are you manually editing repositories?
It says you have 20.04 but are updating from 21.04??
And it looks like you have a ppa that is invalid.

Can you boot into recovery mode.
    You probably have...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: i've installed Ubuntu 21.04, but i don't have internet.

We have seen nVidia issues cause even more errors.

    dpkg -l | grep -i nvidia
    dkms status
    lsmod | grep nvidia

    What video card?
    #To see video:
    lspci -vnn | grep VGA -A 12
    sudo lshw -c display
  9. Re: Dell Inspiron 7490 and Intel RST - a variation on the usual complaint

Can you do a full install to an external drive?
I for years did full installs to any flash drive larger than 16GB. Install was very slow, but with some changes to reduce writes, they have worked. ...

    [ubuntu] Re: can't get started

Do not turn Legacy on, if Windows is UEFI which it should be.

Dell typically needs UEFI update, if SSD also SSD firmware update.
It needs UEFI setting for drives changed to AHCI, not Intel RST...
  11. [kubuntu] Re: Tried to add entry to GRUB, now it's messed up.

A default install, will install grub to first drive, so it probably put grub boot loader in Windows SSD.
And if Windows BIOS/MBR then you can only boot Windows from grub.
    And Windows 10 in BIOS...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: i've installed Ubuntu 21.04, but i don't have internet.

You can try these commands, if you can boot to see issues.

Errors/Warnings, I get a variety of errors warnings, but none prevent system from working well:
    sudo journalctl -b -p err # q to exit...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: Unable to instal Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 on WIndows 7 (Dual Boot)

Full Ubuntu may be an issue.

I used to install standard Ubuntu and then when Ubuntu went to Unity installed the fallback/flashback gui which was lighter weight. I used this on my old laptop, but...
  14. Re: Intel RST RAID support on Ubuntu AFTER installation

    Why RAID 0 with NVMe?

Typically RAID 0 is not recommended.
It was used with slow HDD, for compiling large applications or uses where data is stored on servers, so loss of install not a big issue...

    Re: Uefi & legacy boot

No ESP required for BIOS boot, but I have seen some posts where installer added an ESP, to new BIOS installs even on MBR drives.

All new drives should be gpt, unless you really want Windows in...

    Re: Uefi & legacy boot

Almost all motherboards have UEFI and CSM. And they still call it BIOS, even though since 2012 it really is UEFI.
CSM - UEFI Compatibility Support Module (CSM), which emulates a BIOS mode, only...
  17. Re: Please help with my Ubuntu induced BIOS troubles

Even with 4GB of RAM which should be enough for Ubuntu, a lighter weigh flavor would be better for a lightweight system like this.
I have an old laptop with only 1.5GB of RAM, could not get recent...
  18. Re: No Bootable Device - Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.1

Your fstab also shows the mount of the ESP from sdb?

Do not know Mint, but Ubuntu's installer wants ESP on first drive and installs to that.
But since ESP in fstab, you should be able to boot...

[ubuntu] Re: boot problem after upgrade to 18.04

Did you also recently boot into Windows?
Windows may have run updates including both Windows & UEFI.
Windows updates may have turned on Windows fast start up, which sets hibernation flag & prevents...

    Re: Dual Boot Latitude E5440

You can do a total reinstall of Ubuntu.
But only have to totally reinstall grub.
That converts from using grub-pc which is for BIOS/CSM/Legacy to grub-efi-amd64 which is for UEFI boot on most PCs.

    Re: Dual Boot Latitude E5440

Since Windows is UEFI, you need to always boot system & any repair, or install flash drives in UEFI mode.

I typically suggest using Ubuntu live installer & add Boot-Repair using ppa to the...

Re: Grub has made windows hdd unbootable

You show a newer UEFI system, but most Windows 7 installs were BIOS on MBR partitioned drives.
Only about 2012 when Microsoft required vendors to install Windows 8 in UEFI mode to gpt drives did...
  25. [ubuntu] Re: No bootable devices found after BIOS update on Dell XPS 9370 (ubuntu preinstalled

If UEFI/BIOS cannot see drive, no software or operating system will see it.
UEFI/BIOS scans system for drives & other hardware & writes that info to drive for operating systems to use.

    I might...
