[kubuntu] Re: Can't mount external HDD (USB)

Are you trying to mount it from the terminal? Paste the code. It should be something like:

    sudo mount -t ntfs /dev/<device> /<path>

  6. [ubuntu] Re: Battery Drains While Laptop Off - HP Pavillion g6

The problem could be the BIOS. It could have been specifically designed to work well with Windows and not well with Linux.

Since the BIOS isn't open source, there really isn't a way to prove it...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Best Linux to run on an old 800mHz P3 as a CNC control?

If the native CNC Linux doesn't work you could try DOSBox to run the cnc's DOS program on a version of Ubuntu, just install fluxbox or something on it so it's lightweight.

Re: How do you ask someone out?

The better question probably is "How do you ask someone out without getting rejected?"

The answer is "You probably can't".

The likelihood of rejection occurring at some point in your life is...

    [ubuntu] Re: No Sound 12.04

Are you sure the kernel module is loaded for your soundchip?

This command should list a module under your soundchip.

    sudo lshw

    Also investigate driver modules with

    lsmod

Hey, did you ever find out anything on this? I have a u305 too, and wanted to sync up with you, maybe we can give each other info. Be well.
  11. [ubuntu] Re: ubuntu not finding hp dvd1270i optical drive

I checked with some folks on the IRC channel #ubuntu-beginners. If you don't get a response right away on the forum, you can head over to irc (either using an irc client like xchat/pidgin or by...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: ubuntu not finding hp dvd1270i optical drive

I'm not sure that i'll be able to help you. I believe the driver is compiled into the kernel (as i don't have any drivers listed in
lsmod for my own optical drive or even the ide controllers).

  13. [ubuntu] Re: ubuntu not finding hp dvd1270i optical drive

What channel is the optical drive on? ide1 or ide0? Looks like your seagate hdd is on ide0, but it doesn't detect any other sata device.

If it were me, at this point i'd be checking connectors...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: ubuntu not finding hp dvd1270i optical drive

My optical drive is on /dev/sr0 , so i thought to check /dev/sr* for it, just in case it was there, but not getting mounted.

    What about
    sudo lshw ?

EDIT: is it an ATA device?

  16. [ubuntu] Re: ubuntu not finding hp dvd1270i optical drive

Have you tried going into another tty (ctrl-alt-f1) and killing gnome-power-manager instead of rebooting? It isn't a fix, but i believe it's a step in the right direction.
