  1. Re: Compare directories; Show files in one directory that aren't in the other?

Ohhhh I should've thought of that. rsync was my first instinct- I didn't even know it has a dry mode. Thanks!
  2. Re: Compare directories; Show files in one directory that aren't in the other?

Woa, ActionScript?! That's still alive? I used to write a whole lot of it before Flash and Flex died.

Yea I'm looking at some of these and it looks like it can only do one directory at a time. ...
  3. Re: Compare directories; Show files in one directory that aren't in the other?

As I said in the op post, diff doesn't work because it returns too many false positives.

    If the one directory is

    filea
    fileb
    filec
    filed
    filee
    filef
  4. Compare directories; Show files in one directory that aren't in the other?

I have two directories, I want to know which files are in either directory that aren't in the other, including subdirs.

So basically a diff, but with directories. Actually I thought of just...
  5. Re: Mt samba share spontaneously stopped being visible

(Oh also btw I said Windows 11 not 10 in my first post. But whatever thanks again!)
  6. Re: Mt samba share spontaneously stopped being visible

Oh wow- you know what- I figured out that in File Explorer I had (wisely) already made a shortcut for that. Ug that's so relieving. Thanks you @Morbius1.

Well but once again- it actually *did*...
  7. Re: Mt samba share spontaneously stopped being visible

Well I actually did say in my first post that I'm not running 22, I'm switching to 22 but I'm running 18.04. I mean I did say that, take a look again.
  8. Re: Mt samba share spontaneously stopped being visible

Ok first of all sorry for not using the "
    tags there.

How do I tell what user I am in windows.

Also this is what I got when I tried your line command:

    [code]
    bog@lenovo:~$ sudo apt...
  9. My samba share spontaneously stopped being visible [SOLVED]

I have 18.04 and I switching to 22. I'm using windows first on a separate hard drive.

My samba share on the old computer was working fine for 3 weeks and not suddenly windows can't see it. ...
  10. Re: Do I need a dongle to connect my bluetooth earbuds to wifi??

Oh that's very good information in my case- I live in Manhattan. I'm swimming in wifi here. I didn't know bluetooth was so naked.

But as for wifi- WPA-PSK isn't good enough?

    m
  11. Re: Do I need a dongle to connect my bluetooth earbuds to wifi??

Nah damnit you're correct. "No bluetooth found. Plug in a dongle to use bluetooth."

Christ- I really thought the two would be easily compatible. What idiots invented this and made it...
  12. Do I need a dongle to connect my bluetooth earbuds to wifi??

I have bluetooth earbuds. The article I read says I need a dongle to connect them to my ubuntu pc. Is that really true? I mean the pc already has built in wifi. I really need more hardware for...
  13. Re: VNC shows blank screen with just the mouse cursor.

Oh I thought the "copy the home directory" was a suggestion for a fix for my null audio problem. -I missed that you were quoting a different response from two comments of mine ago instead of one ago,...
  14. Re: VNC shows blank screen with just the mouse cursor.

Copy the home directory from where?

When you say "The backup restore places your data, settings, selected system settings and system data back." what's "the backup restore"? Are we just talking...
  15. Re: VNC shows blank screen with just the mouse cursor.

    NoMachine was totally awesome until:

    UPDATE:
No, wait. It's killed the audio on the host machine (I used an old laptop as the client). Now even when I kill the service and even restart, the...
  16. Re: VNC shows blank screen with just the mouse cursor.

I understand the notion. What I want to do is more than run some applications. Well, or "less" depending on how you look at it. In fact when I'm "done" setting up the new pc I'll barely use the...
  17. Re: VNC shows blank screen with just the mouse cursor.

Oh no did I miss a suggestion? Sorry. Oh! wait on the old post right- I said I was doing ok with x2go boy did that ever fail.

Yea from what I read about .Xresources it looks like it's just a...

  19. Re: VNC shows blank screen with just the mouse cursor.

Um ok how do I know if Wayland or X11 is installed? from the CLI if I type wayl tab I get

    $ wayland-scanner

And here's what I get for DISPLAY:

    $ echo $DISPLAY
    :0
  20. VNC shows blank screen with just the mouse cursor.

I'm upgrading to a new PC. My current one is running 18.04 and I'm going to install 22 on the new one.
Before I do I want to get VNC working on the current one so I dont have to juggle two...
  21. Re: What are the chances that Windows 11 with modify my Ubuntu drive's bootloader?

Oh wow that's a new strategy. So wait- if the windows drive crashes (or you just remove it), and the ubuntu drive boots by itself, you get the windows bootloader and just select the only option...
  22. Re: What are the chances that Windows 11 with modify my Ubuntu drive's bootloader?

Oh I definitely can (I actually said that in response to you way up there at the beginning but hey it's a long thread and you're probably juggling other posts too!)

Yea like like I said the...
  23. Re: What are the chances that Windows 11 with modify my Ubuntu drive's bootloader?

Oh well right from the top this is a no brainer. It says MBR only supports up to 2tb? My ubuntu drive (when I install on it), it's an 8tb drive. So the ubuntu installer will need to do GPT no...
  24. Re: What are the chances that Windows 11 with modify my Ubuntu drive's bootloader?

Yea the 100% I get that. Ok I've got an idea here: What if I turn off windows updates (can I?) and then when and if I need to update it, I shut down, disconnect the ubuntu drive, then boot back into...
  25. Re: What are the chances that Windows 11 with modify my Ubuntu drive's bootloader?
