[xubuntu] Re: How do I change name of hard disk

Just to be clear: you have Thunar automatically mounting this partition, and you don't like that it names the mount point by UUID? Try this -

    1) Unmount the drive (don't eject it, just unmount...
  2. [xubuntu] Re: Screen resolution automatically reset to native resolution after manual setting

Can you change it in Xfce settings instead? If not can you somehow sync Xfce display settings, which are stored in xfconf, with what you're setting using xrandr?
  3. Re: Start a process at boot with systemd that needs networking running.

Have you tried something involving network-online.target ? Refer to man systemd.special for more info

[SOLVED] Re: Latest version of FF?

Try changing your user-agent string? There should be addons available on addons.mozilla.org that do it well enough for this purpose. The recommendation in this thread seems to still work in Firefox...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: apparmor stops clamav-daemon service from starting

    Check the output of

    ls -la /var/lib/clamav
The owner/group for that folder should be clamav:clamav and the log files inside that folder should be owner/group clamav:adm . If it's not this way...

Re: DNS servers resetting after restart

I assume you have a good reason to be directly editing /etc/resolv.conf instead of the normal way to change DNS settings on a current Ubuntu desktop.

Please post output from running this command...
  7. [SOLVED] Re: Unable to install ffmpeg in Bionic, and held packages

By default it will ask your confirmation before any changes to installed packages on your system. It will however disable the PPA without asking, but (as I understand it) if you decide you don't...
  8. [SOLVED] Re: Unable to install ffmpeg in Bionic, and held packages

Those outputs suggest the 4.1.3-0ppa1~18.04 ffmpeg packages might cause less conflicts than the 4.3-2~18.04.york0 versions. Can you install ppa-purge and use it to remove the ubuntuhandbook1 PPA?

  9. [SOLVED] Re: Unable to install ffmpeg in Bionic, and held packages

It appears you have multiple PPAs containing different ffmpeg-related packages that are conflicting with each other. To see which PPA(s) are blocking installing ffmpeg, please post the output from...
  10. [SOLVED] Re: Unable to install ffmpeg in Bionic, and held packages

    Does apt-mark showhold output anything?
  11. [SOLVED] Re: Unable to install ffmpeg in Bionic, and held packages

Please post the output from running this command in Terminal -

    apt-get -s dist-upgrade
(It won't actually change anything, it is just a dry-run/simulation telling you what would happen.)

    [ubuntu_mate] Re: Firefox as Superuser

It is a known issue with MATE's default window manager. See firejail documentation on this.

That is decided by your firejail profile for Firefox. Do you have a custom one in...

    Re: Remote access

    Remotely access for what?

    +1

If SSH doesn't by itself provide what you need, you can tunnel something else through SSH for added security.

Why are you trying to kill pcmanfm? What specific steps/circumstances led to this situation where you want to kill it?
  17. Re: Firefox 91 - GUI changed again - whitespace in menus.

Wait, what? That sounds more time consuming than just coming up with the code yourself. It isn't hard once you know how. :)

Use Browser Toolbox to inspect the element so you can determine the...

    [SOLVED] Re: Purging Chrome

    Yes.

sudo apt-get purge only uninstalls software from the system. It does not delete user personal data for that software.

That "chrome" has nothing to do with Google Chrome -
  19. Re: Firefox 91 - GUI changed again - whitespace in menus.

Which icon do you want colored?
  20. [other] Re: Is there any desktop environment that allows me to rename running apps?

There are desktop-environment-independent ways to do this. You could try something involving wmctrl. Or use a Firefox/Chrome extension or Violentmonkey user script.

    Re: Favorites - unwanted links

I'm not noticing any problems in the terminal outputs you posted earlier.

Maybe check into the status of GVFS? I'm not sure exactly how to check that, but I'd start with the following Terminal...

    Re: How to unmount

So you just want these mounts to not show up like that?

Can you please post the outputs from running these two commands in Terminal? -

    findmnt
    cat /etc/fstab
  24. Re: Keyboard-mashing ran some commands. How to find out what they were?

This happened again. Turns out this was Meta+O, and it actually happens if I press Meta + just about any letter key when a Konsole window is focused: something prints a list of hostnames and IPv6...
  25. [ubuntu] Re: Why does linux report i9-7960X cpu has 32 cores and not 16 cores?

The output you posted shows the answer -

32 is the number of logical cores, not the number of physical cores.
