I recently messed up my ubuntu OS (installed by System76 when purchased) and was forced to reinstall ubuntu. I chose the very latest 19.10 and almost everything is just great....
I managed to get a console from grub, tried reinstalling gnome desktop, no joy, I get the same blank desktop.
I guess i'll just reinstall 19.10

Tried ctrl-alt-f1, just takes me back to the login screen and back to the blank desktop.

Okay, I did something stupid and need help to fix it.
I ~had~ ubuntu Mate installed, decided I didn't like it and wanted to go back to plain Ubuntu (19.10).

I managed to get some help from System76 guys, repairing unity fixed my problem, thanks anyway!
Software center said there was a (partial) upgrade available, so i said install, it did, then it rebooted, and my mouse had gone invisible, so i found a fix that said to install gdm, so i did that,...
wow, nevermind, it was my own stupid fault... box is on the wrong network...
