[ubuntu] Upgrading Paths for 20.04 to 21.10

I read the following on OMG Ubuntu Website:

How to Upgrade to Ubuntu 21.10

But can you upgrade 20.04 to 21.10 safely in two steps?
    1) 20.04 to 21.04
    2) 21.04 to 21.10

    When 21.04...
  2. Re: I want to upgrade from 18.04 to get to 21.04...what hurdles will confront me?

You are right. You can skip over a STS release when starting with the LTS. So I see my 20.04 is offering a direct upgrade to 21.04, but not to 21.10 - even though 21.10 is also supported. I assume...
  3. Re: I want to upgrade from 18.04 to get to 21.04...what hurdles will confront me?

It does say this in the line after the one you quoted. Please reread:
  4. Re: I want to upgrade from 18.04 to get to 21.04...what hurdles will confront me?

I've upgraded from 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS on two machines in one step. Those were successful.

    Rules:
1 - STS (short-term support) releases only upgrade to the following release - regardless of...

    Re: Dualboot WITHOUT Grub??

If one drive is NVMe, and the other SATA, then I believe the boot loader location selector will work. The installer default for installing grub now is the ESP of an NVMe drive if there is one, but I...

Re: Ubuntu 21.10 virtual desktop settings

If you don't want two versions of Firefox, you can remove the snap version:

    snap remove --purge firefox
If you want both, you can rename one to tell them apart. You do that in the .desktop file...

[SOLVED] Re: What AVIF viewers are there?

The image options for saving in Manjaro's gthumb are the same as you show. To test, I tried "save as" with the image used in post #2, and this only works if I choose one of the supported save formats...
  10. Re: Lost Firefox bookmarks after upgrading to 21.10

If you did not do a new install, you may still have the old Firefox, it just may not be showing in the dock. Look in Applications menu > Internet where you might see two icons. Also, a search for...

[SOLVED] Re: What AVIF viewers are there?

    Are you sure about gthumb?
I downloaded a test image, and opened in gthumb (see cropped screenshot). The metadata shows it's HEIF/AVIF image.
    Yet, the gthumb version is:

    [dmn@Sydney ~]$ gthumb...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Tiny Firefox cursor after 21.10 upgrade?

Actually, from the user point of view, I think we are missing things by choosing Wayland. I use Xorg because some applications I use don't work with Wayland - xscreensaver and plank are two examples...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: Tiny Firefox cursor after 21.10 upgrade?

Try login with "Ubuntu on Xorg" option instead of "Ubuntu". The "Ubuntu" choice starts the Wayland display manager. Does this make a difference?
  14. [SOLVED] Re: Gnome Shelle Extensions not working on 21.10

Yes, Firefox Snap cannot manage extensions. Neither can Chromium Snap
    Alternatives:
1 - Install the .deb version of Firefox. As far as I know, it's still in the Ubnutu repository. It can exist...
  15. Re: How to understand or How to check whether o software is 32 or 64 bit

As you have seen, ldd will identify libraries such as:

    libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6 (0xb7688000)
but that's only half the job - you also need to identify what package...
  16. Re: Stuck in Busybox because sda6 can't mount

Is this a new install, or have you been using this OS previously?
If it's a new install, you might have used /root instead of / when specifying a mount point. You also might have confused 'usr' for...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't mount M2 partition. Known bug?

My favorite way to move to latest stable releases is to use a Flatpak version. For darktable, it's available as a Flatpak. As time goes on, more and more applications are available as Flatpak.

  24. Re: I need the current stable release of GIMP

I use the Flatpak version of Gimp. It's always the newest version. It's 2.10.28 right now.
