I actually tried the fix mbr and checked the box but it did not work.
Also I will no longer be able to use the same technique(I think) to boot to windows since I formatted the partition on the external hard drive that had ubuntu on it. Unless I install it again to it....

I managed to get to windows(I'm on Vista BTW) and did so by reconnecting the external hdd and a purple menu appeared. I assume its the grub. Anyway I will do as you say I...

I can't boot to windows because grub rescue menu shows up. Fortunately I have a live usb that has ubuntu, which is how I am able to post this. Anyway I tried the boot tool and have a summary...
