+1 for lubuntu 11.10 ... runs beautifully on my old T-42 ( pentium m 1.8 \ 1 gig ram) and everything worked straight out of the box
same specs as my T42 which is running Lubuntu 11.10 and loving it. :)
have had Lubuntu 11.10 running for several weeks on my old Dell mini9 and am really liking it. It has been fast, stable and pretty much without any problem

I have Lubuntu 10.04 running on my old ThinkPad 600x PIII 500 ghz w/ 384 mb RAM ... every thing works nicely OTB + it runs better than anything since win2k (or maybe 98SE) has done
