    yes ideed, it started on VLC and mplayer, then i installed ubuntu 9.04 again, with gnome desktop of course (if that's what you mean by ubuntu-desktop)..it happened again on VLC, installed kde 3...

    there is a command for checking ext2/ext3 filesystem, but you need to unmount the drive you want to check

    e2fsck /dev/drive
