tripleee, you seem to have lots of good ideas for the page. Why not register for the Wiki and make the changes yourself? I will add them myself when I get time, but I'm a little busy at the moment....
randcv - what output do you get if you type:
ls -l /usr/bin/firefox*
Ah, I'd been wondering about this. Do you think there's a chance 1.5 could be added to Breezy Universe, or will it be a Backports job? Either would be very handy, considering the current speed...
Weird. I had it running fine on my old AMD K6-2 450, so your hardware certainly should be up to it.
I use Privoxy (it's in the repositories) with an extremely cut-down default.action file. Then I put a little link on my bookmarks toolbar to http://config.privoxy.org/edit-actions-list?f=default...
You could try some different midi files. Other than that, I've no idea I'm afraid. Perhaps someone else can help?
It's difficult to say, without more information. Does normal (ALSA) sound play? (Set XMMS to ALSA output and try to play an mp3.) Are you sure the MIDI file you're using is valid? Do you get any...
Are you sure? It seems to be working here.
You should try gnomemeeting, if you haven't already. I found it was much less taxing on the CPU - it ran on my old laptop, which couldn't handle skype. It's included in a default install of Ubuntu,...
That's probably because I just added it to the howto. :)
All I can suggest is starting with a fresh profile. If you followed the howto, your old profile should have been renamed to...
Really? How does Wikipedia do it then? It seems to appear at the top of all sorts of google searches.
I've noticed this as well. Hopefully if enough people link to the Wiki, its GoogleRank will increase (hint, hint!)
Animus, you need to replace firefox-1.5b2.tar.gz with whatever the file you downloaded is called. I also think you would find this easier if you learned a bit more about the linux command line. It...
OK, for all the people having problems with auto-update, you might try running firefox as root:
$ sudo su
Password:
# firefox
# exit
$
When you run it as root, Check for Updates in the...
How bizarre! It seems to be doing a google I'm Feeling Lucky search on the clipboard contents, or maybe something else. You could try forums.mozillazine.org - someone there might know why it does...
It should exist! What does
ls -l /usr/bin/firefox* give?
Is the slowdown noticeable on a machine this fast? If so all I can say is ... wow, how did they mess it up so badly? :( Thought it would only make a difference on old machines like my Athlon 800.
Glad I'm not the only one to have noticed this then! I don't know why it's so slow, but it is extremely annoying on slightly older hardware. There's a bug open about it, but no progress - seems it...
Thanks for your effort, but you should know this information is already available on the wiki.
Your right. I think the plugin's not compatible with 1.5. I've updated the howto. I've also changed it to link to the plugins instead of copying them, which is probably a better way to do it.
How to do it without messing up your system and confusing the package manager (hopefully!)
The Howto is on the wiki at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FirefoxNewVersion. Comments here please.

Aha, I've figured it out! You just have to be observant...
The command you need to run is 'sky'. Once you're in, F5 gives you the menu (in case you can't figure out how to quit!)
It runs great here. Problem is, I'm totally stuck on the first screen! Is it...
