  1. Re: Does changing to Wayland or changing OS to Kubuntu stop from having screen tearin

This ^^^ is what I would try but with just a small yet very important change represented in bold below:

    sudoedit /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

    Likewise, in your friend's suggestion,...

  4. Re: Dymo 450 is it easy to set up on Linux Mint ?

    https://askubuntu.com/a/772201

This may or may not work and the link in the answer goes to the latest drivers (circa 2012).
  5. [ubuntu] Re: 20.04 - Put URL Link Icon On Desktop?

Short answer: You can't or, better, the Gnome devs are adamant that you shouldn't so then you can't.

    Re: Second Monitor

It's as easy if not easier than in Windows.
Connect it and boot, that's it. At this point you need to Settings > Screens and adjust your preferences. Typically there's nothing else to do but...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: 20.04 - Old Apple MacBook - Boot Takes Over 1.5 Minutes?

If not using snaps then snapd probably can but that's not the issue. The hardware is. Please note that a 10 years old Macbook roughly compares to a 12 years old PC. And, again, nowadays a HDD is the...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: 20.04 - Old Apple MacBook - Boot Takes Over 1.5 Minutes?

If it has a HDD then I would say not bad, at all.
Users of old hardware should set their expectations accordingly.
  9. [ubuntu] Re: 20.04 - Old Apple MacBook - New Battery Only Charges To 69% ?

I think you just answered your own question.
  10. [ubuntu] Re: 20.04 - Old Apple MacBook - New Battery Only Charges To 69% ?

Is the battery genuine Apple? If so how do you know it's new?
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu sometimes does not boot correctly

    It's actually
IOMMU=soft but NOT a video settings and yes, you should definitely try it although I wouldn't bet on it. This used to be needed for some AMD based boards with broken IOMMU from around...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: New Video Card - Should I uninstall old graphics drivers first?

I think they mean the old Catalyst GUI and that being the case no, there's isn't one I'm aware of.
  13. [ubuntu] Re: New Video Card - Should I uninstall old graphics drivers first?

No need and no, you weren't using proprietary drivers unless running Ubuntu form 6 years ago. Both drivers for AMD cards are now open-source and included.
  14. Re: ACPI BIOS Error - defaults to root shell whenever I try to boot UBUNTU 20.04

The error is probably harmless, probably was always there but you didn't see it due to the splash screen and subsequent successful boot of the graphical environment.
    Something must have happened for...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: No encryption option during install

The option to encrypt only /home was indeed removed years ago.
The full drive encryption - I think - was always like it is today, LVM+LUKS.
  16. [kubuntu] Re: Laptop overheating (while not at all on Windows 8)

    So there you have it.

Change to Intel, reboot and then monitor the temperatures. This is the only real comparison that should be made because Windows is working always with the iGPU Intel unless...
  17. [kubuntu] Re: Laptop overheating (while not at all on Windows 7)

You need to know your hardware.

If it has any i5/i7/i9 Intel CPU plus adGPU Nvidia it has hybrid graphics indeed.
Please open Nvidia X Server Settings (search it like any other app). There you...
  18. [ubuntu_studio] Re: [drm] Failed toopen DRM device for pci:xxxx:xx:xx.x

How are you installing the Nvidia drivers? You should ONLY install them from the official repositories, not from the Nvidia binaries. If the latter, among other problems, you have to reinstall each...
  19. Re: A dream of improvement. Can anyone implement it ?

Again, it isn't halting but even if it was there's a very good solution for that "problem": Do not visit those websites.

    So don't.

You don't have to if you don't want to. But why should...
  20. [server] Re: Unable to connect to in.archine.ubuntu.com

    Welcome.

The problem is likely temporary so try again later. Or change to another server.

[SOLVED] Re: NVIDIA graphics driver gone

To uninstall those run the same command with the argument to uninstall.
The main problem with installing that way is that you need to reinstall each and every time there's a kernel update.
    Once...
  23. Re: A dream of improvement. Can anyone implement it ?

I think you proposed changes make no sense.

There are many situations that can trigger those alerts.

In the first situation why would you want to "block it forever", the "it" being a website...

[SOLVED] Re: NVIDIA graphics driver gone

The situation resolved itself, that's nice.

That said, the likely cause of such issues is installing the drivers using the Nvidia binaries. NEVER do that. ALWAYS install the correct drivers from...
