  1. Re: Resolution 5040x1050 with Triplehead2Go / Nvidia graphic board

My bad. I just copied/pasted the output from this site which has been reliable for me in the past. Everything should be in lower case, so:

    xrandr --newmode Modeline "5040x1050_60.00" 440.37 5040...
  2. Re: Resolution 5040x1050 with Triplehead2Go / Nvidia graphic board

I don't use nVidia, so I'm of limited help, but:

    Try this modeline instead:

    # 5040x1050 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 65.22 kHz; pclk: 440.37 MHz
    Modeline "5040x1050_60.00" 440.37 5040 5352 5896...

While true enough, the resulting product must at least be functional. My grandchildren had to home‑school for a portion of the pandemic and if your clients' experience is similar to theirs, then this...

Perhaps I should also add that smartctl is not a be-all-end-all. It combines some metadata with actual data to try to be predictive, but if you think about it, how can it be anything other than...

    Re: Disk bad?

HDDs are finicky little beasts. I've had similar experiences where they run great until one day they just don't. Some HDDs provide warning. Others, none.

    You've already said that it's a clone...

Re: Virtual Private Server, please help!

You never cease to amaze me with your wealth of info. It so happens that this option may be very timely and useful for me right now.

    Thanks for sharing.
  8. [SOLVED] Re: How to I revert back to an earlier version of Gimp -EXIF data problem with latest

If you are game for some complexity, you can always run older apps (or, at the other end of the scale, unstable bleeding edge development versions) by firing up a container and installing the app...

  10. Re: Video signal lost after upgrading to Groovy

    Final update:

The problem remains frustratingly unresolved, but I have worked around it by giving up on the Display Port and using HDMI instead. For those stuck with only DP, I'm afraid there has...

[ubuntu] Re: New and need help for RAID

If a drive fails and does so in very specific ways (for HW reasons), then yes, the other HDD chugs away taking up the load. You would then replace the failed drive, re-activate mirroring and the...

[ubuntu] Re: New and need help for RAID

Please really note TheFu, one of our resident gurus. Excellent advice.

Snapshots are not backups. Not even close. They are used to roll back to a known good state after a foul‑up, such as a bad...

[ubuntu] Re: New and need help for RAID

When creating, you can define the pool as mirrored:
    man zpool
Note to not use any of the raidz but use mirror.

    Welcome to the Forums, clctr13760

The easiest way would be to install Ubuntu onto the SSD first without touching either of the two HDDs. They can be set up afterwards.

Re: Install old laptops on Ubuntu?

My only observation would be to not mix‑and‑match OSes. It makes it needlessly hard to maintain. You should aim for the lowest common denominator, in this case, 32-bit support. As CelticWarrior has...
