    Nastygram from QIII

I received this nastygram from QIII two days ago:

    Dear ml9104,

You have received an infraction at Ubuntu Forums.

    Reason: Culturally insensitive insult

  3. [ubuntu] Re: How to prepare multiple drives for a new version of Ubuntu

"Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I don't see how my sig opens any questions."
    It shows Lubuntu 18.04
    That's why.
  4. [ubuntu] Re: How to prepare multiple drives for a new version of Ubuntu

First, are you running Ubuntu or Lubuntu? Your signature opens questions.
Second: are your storage1...3 separate or even external drives? With ExFAT you're in a bad position and will probably need...

Re: I have a problem with update

Seems the "azure" repository has a problem. Try switching to a different server.
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Can't add some programs to favourites in Ubuntu 22.04

I've changed/added your "Categories=" lines as marked in red. Note that a "Main" catagory must always be included as in the link I posted.

  7. [ubuntu] Re: Can't add some programs to favourites in Ubuntu 22.04

Your Categories are wrong/missing. These are extremely important, as they are the basis for the desktop when building the Favorites menu during login.
Only certain standardized ones are permitted,...

  9. [ubuntu] Re: Hybrid sleep (suspend to RAM and disk)

First, for some obscure security reasons, Hibernate is disabled on all variants of Ubuntu. You'll need to install and set it up first.

Second, I'm running Lubuntu which has a different desktop....

    Re: Automatic firmware updates.

Yes, fine. I'me aware of the intricacies with Dell.
But how on earth would Ubuntu run a .exe file? And the OP has not indicated that he/she has gone through such a dialog at all.

    Re: Automatic firmware updates.

Linux, Ubuntu or any of the flavors will never update/change your BIOS. It's physically not possible. That Dell has built some online update mechanism into the BIOS is highly unlikely.
    I think you're...
  12. Re: Live USB + Persistent has painfully slow boot, 32 minutes vs. 2 min. w/o Persiste

I'm not certain you read the link I posted. The point is this one:
"A Persistent install extracts the OS from a compressed file and saves data to an overlay file or partition each session"

    If...
  13. Re: Live USB + Persistent has painfully slow boot, 32 minutes vs. 2 min. w/o Persiste

Unless you do a full install to your USB, the OS will be extracted and written to the USB on every session. BTW, 3 GB is painfully little and probably useless....
  14. Re: Live USB + Persistent has painfully slow boot, 32 minutes vs. 2 min. w/o Persiste

Nothing strange about your USB behaviour.
    1: USB reading: very fast
2: USB writing: very fast until the built-in RAM buffer is full. The buffer is perhaps 4...16 MB, not much more. Then it gets...
  15. [lubuntu] Re: Do I need to wipe out luks to install os?

    OK.
So the Lubuntu version you have is 18.04 (LXDE desktop) or 18.10 (LXQt desktop).
The .iso is hopefully downloaded from the archives of lubuntu.me and NOT from lubuntu.net, which is a...
  16. [lubuntu] Re: Do I need to wipe out luks to install os?

    With a 32-bit machine you're in a bad spot.
    All Ubuntu dialects are out.
I believe debian is still an option, but am not knowledgeable there.

[ubuntu] Re: Recommended install for Toshiba NB505...

Just to put a few facts on that one (Lubuntu 20.04 LTS):
RAM usage after boot: around 320 MB total.
Adding Brave browser with five tabs: around 900 MB total.

    Unless you're doing LTSpice...

[ubuntu] Re: Recommended install for Toshiba NB505...

Lubuntu will run fine on 2 GB and 1.6 GHz, you'll have boot times of around 80 seconds. If you're in a position to replace the HDD with an SSD, this will be around 4...5 times faster.

    [kubuntu] Re: boot partition full

In that case we're down to:
    1: system backup (eg, Timeshift).
2: brute force deletion of some old kernels and initrd using rm.

I actually don't think it would create problems. The old files are...

[ubuntu] Re: Power save mode vs power off
