Go to the software center and download the "additional drivers" app. When you run it, make sure the latest drivers for your wired and wireless connections are enabled.
Is this a wired or wireless...
You should be able to boot into bios and disable secure boot setting. I say "should" because I have not been lucky enough to have had to buy a new Win8 machine lately, personal or work related.
I'm currently running the following Dell laptops on Ubuntu 12.04/12.10 with no problems:
Dell Latitude D630
Dell Studio 1537 and 1737
Dell Latitude E6400, E6410 and E6420
Has anyone else installed Ubuntu on a computer utilizing a touch screen monitor? I'm lucky enough to work in an environment where I have access to 60", 70" and 80" touch screen monitors. I...
Will the machine boot up in Windows 7 and see the second hard drive? If so, at least we know the bios is seeing the second hard drive.
Can you bring up the GUI of the router in a browser? Normally the IP address of a home router is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. You shouldn't need to install anything if all you want to do is log into...
I can't speak for the repository list, but the official Ubuntu documentation in here: https://help.ubuntu.com/
For simplicity, create a folder on the root of the C drive on the Windows 7 machine and call it whatever you want, but for this we'll call it Files. Once the file is created, right-click on it and...

A few questions here. What exactly are you wanting to monitor? Why are you wanting to monitor them? Can we assume, since you did not specify, these users are using Ubuntu?
Having had to go down...
I'm having a very similar issue. I have downloaded the imaged a few times and verified the checksums, and burned them at a slow speed. I can boot from the live dvd and even install. However, upon...

If you boot your laptop off the live cd, will it detect your wireless NIC and connect to your network? If it will, then install from the live cd and when you get to the install options, check the...
Does it ever come on, or does it stay blank? Do you have to power off the machine and power it back on?
Does it happen if you connect it to a different USB port on your Ubuntu machine?
It sounds like it may have overheated in the past and may be causing the issues now. However, if it's been sitting for a while and you try and power it on and it doesn't come on, then it may not be...
I have a few of these kits and they work well with all size hard drives.
When you booted from the live cd and was able to connect to wireless, then start the install process. On the screen where you are asked where you want to install, at the bottom of that screen there...
I would probably go with 12.04.
When you boot from the CD or USB drive and install, do you get the option to install next to Windows 8, like with other Windows versions?
Without virtualization I don't know if you are going to be able to boot one os while inside another os. I personally use Wubi at work and it's been great.
