Take the time to read the whole topic, it's been fun following it :)

But if you don't have the time...

It seems you have to be root to do that, put "sudo " before each command.
I didn't notice it, as I always use root when playing in the terminal :P

That is known to happen when you first install it :)
Reload the module like this:
modprobe -r bcm5974
modprobe bcm5974

Try removing what you added to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and restart. I'm not completely sure, but I think that's it.
