It is happening to me as well... I am using 'ask' for the moment...
I think you are running the 32 bit version on linux 64 bits... Did you download the 64 bit version of OpenFoam??

I created the file called 'monitor' in this folder
/home/james/scripts/monitor
with the following content

crontab -e

Open Foam is perfectly OK without FoamX. You just need to use your text editor to modify the config files...
