The packages on GetDeb are built for Ubuntu, so no problems there - just make sure you download packages for the right _version_ of Ubuntu ;)

Using
sudo make install is a rather bad idea. It's much better to use the debian package system to keep track of such files, so instead of running
sudo make install, just run
sudo checkinstall...
