    [ubuntu] Re: vercrypt auto dismount

The veracrypt manual is written almost explicitly for Microsoft Windows. And often references characteristics of Windows when discussing auto-dismount and security issues/features.
    So unfortunately,...

    [ubuntu] vercrypt auto dismount

I use veracrypt 1.19, and have researched and found mixed information if veracrypt auto dismounts it's encrypted volume when I shut down the computer.
    I looked in /etc/rc*.d, and didn't find...

Update, all is good and (mostly) working!
    - tried a few of the posted methods to get Windows8 to use AHCI for SATA, but all failed.

  5. [SOLVED] Re: Install Ubuntu on integrated SSD currently used for Intel RST?

    Update:
I've disabled SRT on Windows 8, and disabled SRT in the BIOS. After this, the install iso sees the mSATA SSD! Cool.
However, if in BIOS I change 'SATA operation' from 'Intel Smart Response...

  7. [SOLVED] Install Ubuntu on integrated SSD currently used for Intel RST?

Currently, I have Windows 8.x , Ubuntu 16.04LTS, and Mint 18 installed on 500GB HD. All is ok.

  8. [SOLVED] Re: duplicity command line question, can't find accidentally deleted file

    UPDATE: Found it.
So the difficulty is with how duplicity lists times, vs what duplicity expects on the command line.
    Running 'duplicity collection-status <url1>' reports using local-times....
  9. [SOLVED] duplicity command line question, can't find accidentally deleted file

I need more advanced options than deju-dup provides, so I'm investigating duplicity from the command line.
Problem is, under my test case, I can't find 'old' files I've deleted. In simple terms, if...
  10. [SOLVED] Re: Ubuntu Server, Samba, ext4 partition, and windows executable

Thanks folks. I tried a handful of things to change the permissions (via Samba and via W8), and nothing I did helped. There's likely a proper fix, but I don't need the .exe's on a remote partition...
  11. [SOLVED] Re: Ubuntu Server, Samba, ext4 partition, and windows executable

I'd consider that, do you have a recommended 3rd party tool that is free and that you trust? I've seen a few that cost $.
  12. [SOLVED] Re: Ubuntu Server, Samba, ext4 partition, and windows executable

So does that mean there's a possible fix via Samba settings?
    (I'm a rookie with this Samba/windows thing.)
God help me if I have to join a Windows forum. lol.
  13. [SOLVED] Ubuntu Server, Samba, ext4 partition, and windows executable

    Big mistake, odd problem:
Ubuntu server, Samba, a disk partition formatted as ext4. Add in a Windows 8.1 machine for fun.

  15. [ubuntu] USB device not mounted & not in fdisk output, but is in lsusb & dmesg

I've searched and looked, but to no avail. I can't figure out what to do with this USB device and 16.04.
Many other USB devices will auto-mount just fine.

dmesg and lsusb recognize device. ...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Simple UFW rules to block external traffic

Ok, with the above rules, I can sftp to the server (from local client), but can't ftp.
I added "sudo ufw allow ftp", but still can't ftp from client.
Current ufw rules on server look like:

  17. [ubuntu] Re: Simple UFW rules to block external traffic

Nope, it's attached to a home router. And the server IP is a private one (192.168.xxx)
  18. [ubuntu] Simple UFW rules to block external traffic

    Note I'm a ufw / iptables rookie.
I've done some simple testing and so far, I think I have a set of simple rules to block/allow my local file server from external addresses, and allow local access....

[ubuntu] Re: sftp, nautilus, and date/time preserve

Yea, slow. But I'm pretty sure that's a limitation of the Virb USB device. When connected via USB directly to server, all I got was 12Mb/s. It's a new server though, and I need to double check...
