  1. Poll: Re: How to compile the 2.6.17 kernel from kernel.org

Hey I noticed that it was giving me those errors a while back also, it seems to not copy those files at all. I never got it to compile, but if just use the installer from ati it works perfectly fine,...
  2. Re: HOWTO: Splashy (replacement for usplash, as good (or better) than bootsplash!)

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install splashy splashy-themes
    sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

    sudo splashy_config --info #displays installed themes#
    sudo splashy_config -s /name of theme/
  3. Re: HOWTO: Splashy (replacement for usplash, as good (or better) than bootsplash!)

Any idea how to fix? Or maybe a way to integrate usplash or fbsplash into the kernel?

    Edit: I am compiling with
Device Drivers → Graphics support → VESA VGA graphics support enabled.

    From...
  4. Re: HOWTO: Splashy (replacement for usplash, as good (or better) than bootsplash!)

Still no errors, but splashy doesnt work either. Splashy technically starts but doesnt do anything. If I leave the vga argument out it shows that splashy started and the screen flashes but continues...
  5. Re: HOWTO: Splashy (replacement for usplash, as good (or better) than bootsplash!)

When I was trying to compile the ati kernel module it gave me missing file errors like makefile.cpu, makelib and others; even though they were extracted safely they were never copied to kernel...
  6. Re: HOWTO: Splashy (replacement for usplash, as good (or better) than bootsplash!)

It works on the normal kernel, but the one I compiled from your guide doesnt work. It also gave me an error when I was trying to compile the ati kernel module so its a kernel compilation error even...
  7. Re: HOWTO: Splashy (replacement for usplash, as good (or better) than bootsplash!)

    That doesnt do anything.
  8. Re: HOWTO: Splashy (replacement for usplash, as good (or better) than bootsplash!)

All I get is a blank screen. When I try to set the theme to ubuntusplashy:

    root@Laptop:/home/jeff# splashy_config -s ubuntusplashy

    ** (process:4931): CRITICAL **: xml_parser_text_handler:...
  9. Re: HOWTO: Splashy (replacement for usplash, as good (or better) than bootsplash!)

I keep getting xml parser errors everytime I run splashy_config, and even when booting up in relation to splashy.

    ** (process:5958): CRITICAL **: xml_parser_text_handler: assertion `text_len >...
  10. Re: Have you made your wife/girlfriend a "computer widow"?

I imagine that if you are using Ubuntu, you do have internet access but spend more time on it (configuring/troubleshooting/other) than just browsing myspace and downloading music.

Re: Automatic Installation of Xgl and Compiz

Torstein, the freezing is most likely do to incorrect settings in x, run fglrxinfo and see if it says ati, if it does it means you have rendering. It could also be a configuration error due to a bad...

Re: Automatic Installation of Xgl and Compiz

Edit: I did get the error, but its just a text prompt, nothing to do with the installation putting ' ' around the paranthesis fixes it.

As for the brown checkerboard screen, that shows that...

Re: Automatic Installation of Xgl and Compiz

Your graphics card is currently not supported.

ATI xpress 200m (integrated), I just removed my xgl/compiz installation to try this so I am pretty sure it works on this chipset too. Yes I tried the...
