Update: Found my problem. it was mixing a USB keyboard with a 4 year old...

So I fixed my problem. It had absolutely nothing to do with Hardy. The same problem would've happened regardless of the operating system because....

Do you there any way to force Ubuntu's hand and say "Yes you do have a network card" like there is with Windows?

So I just installed Hardy on my Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop. Everything is cool and fine until I try to connect to my network. As it turns out, my laptop has no clue it even has a NIC.

I like when others have my problem. Same laptop. Same problem. If I use ifconfig -a it doesn't even list my adapter. My 'puter doesn't even know it exists.

How much does it not know it exists?...

dstew - I think it's basically the same direction you were going....

I'm glad to find others with the same problem as me.

When I try to start SPM using the menu, a panel item comes up saying "Starting Administrat..." for about 10 seconds or so, then goes away...

Can you explain what you did to fix the problem? It sounds like I have the same problem and I'm very new to Ubuntu and Linux.
