    [ubuntu] Re: Partitioning

What would happen if you wipe the whole device (overwrite it with zeros for example with mkusb)? Then there should be no traces on the drive to tempt the installer to create an MSDOS partition table....

    [ubuntu] Re: Iso testing

    - Did you use mkusb-dus or mkusb-plug?
    - Did you create a persistent live system or a [cloned ]live-only system?
    - Was it a normal installation to an internal drive that crashed?

    I am asking in...

Re: Howto make USB boot drives

    A race condition?

I tested with a system created for this purpose in my Toshiba computer with a generation 3 Intel i5 CPU and 4 GB RAM booted in BIOS mode. This is different from your Acer, but...

Re: Howto make USB boot drives

    Thanks @C.S.Cameron,

These details should be enough for me to reproduce the bugs that you see.

I can start testing in my own computers now, but it may take some time until I can try with my...

    [ubuntu] Re: Iso testing

Thanks, I will try to reproduce the bug, and find a way to squash it.

I tested mkusb 12.4.4-1ubuntu5 very recently in a persistent live Ubuntu Focal system (and as we all know, such a system does...

    [ubuntu] Re: Iso testing

I would like to debug the problem with mkusb, and I need some details:

Did you get the sudo problem when running mkusb? Or when running the system created by mkusb?

    Did you use mkusb-dus...
  13. Re: 19.10 Ubuntu live image has a persistent write behaviour by default, why not r/o*

Your DVD boot disks will work as before, they will be read-only.

We can only guess why and how this modification was decided: The new feature of Ubuntu 19.10 to create a partition for persistence...

    @C.S.Cameron,

I do not recognize the warnings and error messages that you get. Please describe in detail how you use mkusb 12.4.4 (I guess you mean mkusb-dus), and how you use mkusb-plug.

Re: Howto make USB boot drives

    1. I am testing right now, and I have found a silly but bad bug in mkusb-tow, that is used by mkusb-plug to make a Windows installer. I am testing now after fixing that bug, and later today I intend...

Re: Howto make USB boot drives

    Sorry for the confusion:

mkusb-plug is a program package, that can be installed via the mkusb PPA (ppa:mkusb/ppa and ppa:mkusb/unstable). It is [stlll?] loosely tied to the main mkusb package.

  18. Re: 19.10 Ubuntu live image has a persistent write behaviour by default, why not r/o*

I agree with you. As a matter of fact it should be rather easy to simply add a menu entry for syslinux in BIOS mode and grub in UEFI mode.

But until we have that, we can use sed as you suggest. I...

[SOLVED] Re: Installing Ubuntu ISO by commands

If there is a file with the name 'casper-rw' or in some (but not all) cases a partition with the label 'casper-rw', and it can be found during the boot process, it will be used for persistency.

I get that error too, but have not had the energy too create a bug report; I am only waiting for a new and working version.

By the way, I tested the current Ubuntu Server daily iso file...
