I have solved the problem. Ubuntu was referencing one of my IDE drives instead of the raid array. I unplugged the IDE music drive and GRUB installed fine and sees both Ubuntu and Windows.

Desktop effects work without enabling the restricted driver, but when I enable it, all I get is a white screen! Following the driver, I see that mesa is the opengl driver.
