    Permissions and home folder

I'm new to programming. I made a program in Windows using Python 3 that downloads FAA approach plates. It uses the QT gui. I recently installed Ubuntu 13.04, and have been trying to get my program to...

    [ubuntu] Re: No HMDI Audio

Thank you - that solved my problem. The Ubuntu wiki article had very clear instructions; good rolemodel for Linux how-to articles.

    [ubuntu] No HMDI Audio

I just installed Ubuntu 13.04. I have no HDMI audio. Under sound settings, my device is not listed. According to a search, this is due to a glitch in the kernel. Some people solved it by installing...

    [ubuntu] Re: One-click server launching

Thank you very much, that worked for both programs. The TF2 server does require a number of command line parameters, but they do work.

    [ubuntu] One-click server launching

I'm trying to create a desktop shortcut to my Ventrilo and TF2 server programs. I'll use Ventrilo as an example.

To run it, I have to type in console:

    cd ventsrv
    ./ventrilo_srv

    Nothing else...

[ubuntu] Grub won't let me into Windows

I recently redid my hard drive partitions (Bought a new drive, moved everything around). I've been set up on new Vista install for several days, with GRUB correctly working from an old Ubuntu...
  8. Re: btnx: Send keyboard and mouse combination events with mouse buttons

I've used btnx before and it's fantastic, and should have been included with Ubuntu many distros ago.

I just installed 8.10, but can't get this working.

If I do the binary, it works until the...

[ubuntu] How do I enable surround sound?

How do I enable 5.1 surround sound? Quake Wars won't let me set it, it's only detecting 2 speakers. I have an Envy24 card.

Also: Sound is horribly distorted in games, and is missing most of the...

[ubuntu] Re: Sound broken in games

Also: I found a post from a while back of a somewhat similar problem, and was able to resolve it by changing the output frequency on his card using the Envy24 Control Panel. It was playing at 48k but...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Only 4 channels (+ bass) on Genius Sound Maker Value 5.1

Same problem here. I found an option in the sound settings (the name wasn't very descriptive) that let the rear speakers mimic the front ones in 2-channel audio, but the center is still dead.

    [other] Re: Sound problem

Very common problem, I forgot how to fix it. A way around it is to disable your onboard sound in the BIOS settings, and Ubuntu will then use your sound card.

Ubuntu devs: Please add in a GUI...

    [ubuntu] Sound broken in games

I'm using a VIA envy24 chip. In Ubuntu, sound in games (UT2k4 and Quake Wars) is messed up. It's very distorted, anemic and sounds like most of the frequencies are missing. It's fine when using...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Low Graphics Mode in Hardy, NVIDIA Drivers / x problem

I fixed it by reformatting. It took me all of half an hour to reformat, reinstall, and set up the basic packages like codecs, video drivers,(working this time) import my bookmarks, and set up btnx.
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Low Graphics Mode in Hardy, NVIDIA Drivers / x problem

I've attached a copy of the old log file after it was broken. I appreciate any help. :)
  17. [ubuntu] Re: Low Graphics Mode in Hardy, NVIDIA Drivers / x problem

I'm having a similar problem. I uninstalled my graphics driver package to troubleshoot why Quake Wars wasn't working, (probably unrelated in retrospect) then I had the same problem as PenguinXtra...

    Re: quake wars won't install

Is there anything required to do this besides turning off desktop effects in Compiz? I tried it, and it still broke on launch. I remember in the past, it would cause performance problems in-game, but...

  21. Re: btnx: Send keyboard and mouse combination events with mouse buttons

    How do you do this?
  22. Re: btnx: Send keyboard and mouse combination events with mouse buttons

To be fair, this is mostly the fault of the mouse for having the middle button do a search function by no default, but Hardy does seem to break it entirely by enabling the search functionality....

I just installed Ubuntu again, and btnx was the first program I installed. Automatic scroll mode through Revoco mode isn't working properly. It appears to work, and the freespin threshhold adjusts...

Re: HowTo: Install ETQW Full on Gutsy

Has anyone found a fix for the nasty input lag? It runs great, with performance similar to in Windows, but there is bad input lag. I tried the RT kernel, and it didn't fix it.

Re: HowTo: Install ETQW Full on Gutsy

Are there any fixes for the mouse lag other than using the aternate kernel? That doesn't fix it for me.
