Did you installed the restricted drives?
What error do you get when you try to boot to xp? Also try changing hd1,0 to sd0,0 or sd1,0

Try to repair vista with vista installation disk...

Maybe you hadn't set in the bios to boot from cd first. Enter the bios (by pressing del or F2 at startup) and then choose to boot first from cd.
Try to recover xorg.conf. Boot in recovery mode and then select to fix xorg
If it is a .deb double click it and theν click install. (You can download ubuntu packages from packages.ubuntu.com)
