Hi Jason,
Hmm - I thought the idea of bridging was that you don't need to route/nat.
If I source-NAT to 192.168.30.254 (the local router), then how would the server pick up the packets and...
Hi guys,
I've got an issue trying to get Openvpn up and running in bridged mode.
The remote computer can authenticate and connect and get and IP address and ping the Openvpn server fine.

Have you made sure the FTP server is even running?
sudo /etc/init.d/proftp start
(replace proftp with your ftp server program)
You're right about Windows buggering up your bootloader... even vista pretends no other os exists...
Basically you have to install windows then boot off a live CD to restore your old boot loader,...
Ubuntu is very flexible... with your ram you only really need a / (root) partition. BUT if you want to run more programs at once, a swap partition might be a good idea (especially if you have 30gb...
You might have noticed that when you install firefox in KDE4 it looks like complete ****. Tabs are almost unusable with their colouring, and the form elements are about 50% too large and only look...
I've found the solution: it appears you can't use desktop effects with Xinerama on nvidia. Switching my displays to TwinView did the trick.
Hi guys,
Here's an odd one:
I've noticed my screensaver is only covering about a third of one of my monitors - the rest of the screen and the other monitor is just white.
Disabling desktop...
This may seem like a stupid question, but how do I re-arrange the favourites tab in the Application Launcher? I've added Firefox, but its at the bottom and I want it at the top...
I had no problems with Compiz in 8.04 (but I was running Ubuntu for that particular release). Desktop effects are mentioned in the Kubuntu release announcement, so I'd be suprised if I needed extra...
Hi guys,
I've just installed the latest kubuntu, and its really slick! One problem I'm having though is I can't enable desktop effects - everything is greyed out, with the text "Composting is not...
A lot of routers won't handle forwarding through the external IP address when both the source and the destination is internal. The only way you could test remote access locally is by remoting on to a...
General thoughts to bear in mind:
If you want it to be compatible with all other OS's, chose FAT32.
If you are only using it with *nix, remember that flash drives have a limited write life... its...
Unless your machine is on an ISP's network it is quite unlikely you'll have a public IP for your machine. Generally you'll need to have the IP address set to the same network as the router (gateway)...
I didn't realise that the dv9700 had a number pad? The keys doubling as a number pad is quite common on laptops... it is by design, and there is nothing you can do about it except use a full sized...
Hi guys,
I've finally worked out the solution for this problem so I thought I would share it here.
If you have a managed network (ie you have a server and real DNS), it is quite common to have...
You can find the largest files in your system by opening up a terminal and entering
find /home -type f -ls | sort -k 7 -r -n | head
Replace /home with whatever directory you want to search.
I'm *assuming* that the machine you're connecting from has one of the IP's you have in the /etc/exports?
Did you restart nfs on the server after editing /etc/exports?
In linux we don't use exe files. Programs are marked in their properties as being executable or not.
I think you might be going the wrong way about installing programs... you don't generally run...
Does your wireless card show up in the Restricted Drivers Manager? I use Kubuntu so it's a little different for me, but have a look for it in your System menu.
Sometimes windows with SP2 does weird things to "help" us.
Could it be related to this? http://kerpau.net/windows-has-blocked-access-to-these-files-to-help-protect-your-computer-workaround/
Weird... maybe check your keymap and make sure it is sane?
Safe-mode and Spybot S&D is my general recipe for getting rid of most windows virii.
Use FAT32. Most usb sticks are formatted this way these days. FAT32 isn't fully case sensitive either, but it will remember the case you have set.
(ie you can create aAa, but it will clash with...
Hi guys,
I'm not too sure how to phrase this succinctly so google isn't helping me much. I'm after a program (probably running as a daemon) that constantly pings (or something similar) remote...
