[ubuntu] Re: installing software to different drive

I intend to build a gaming rig at some point with a GeForce GTX 660Ti and an OC'ed 3rd gen i5 under water cooling and whatnot-- I expect to have a small (under 100GB) Vertex 4 and a 7200rpm 2TB HDD....
  2. [SOLVED] Re: 12.04: How to install nVidia drivers that works?

The nVidia driver installer actually tells me it's installed at this point, but I still have no OpenGL nor glx. The driver shows up in jockey-gtk, but when I select it it says I'm "holding broken...
  3. [gnome] Re: miller columns in nautilus, or nautilus replacement?

I'd give up Nautilus for Thunar yesterday if I found out Thunar had miller columns. I use Dolphin every once in a while, but I hate having KDE installed because the update volume with 2 DE's is...

I didn't realize HP licensed problematic IP for use in their printers, and I've never had any trouble with HP printers or scanners at all... so I went to Office Depot and bought an HP printer.

Re: PPA for easy transparent (RGBA) Gtk

There's an option in the global menu applet to enable support for RGBa, I have it checked, and the menu drop downs are properly translucent... but gedit, and all my other gnome apps look normal.

Re: PPA for easy transparent (RGBA) Gtk

I installed this from the PPA on Lucid, and while blur works great in the dock and window title bars, it won't do anything for the windows themselves.

Is there some kind of conflict with Gnome...

    Re: sudo apt-get install sl

I've aliased 'list' to 'ls' and listall to 'ls -a'..

'list all' COULD be two words if long arguments required no dashes..

    Getting the NE LoCo moving

Support makes people feel secure. A well supported person is likely to do more adventurous things than a person alone. In addition to doing what we can to make Ubuntu the best it can be, we can go...

    [ubuntu] Re: Software Audio Amplifier

The fact of the matter is that the way Ubuntu handles volume is seriously flawed.

It needs to be in decibels, and it needs to have a good positive range.
Alternately, it should go from 0 to 200%,...

Re: HOWTO: Wii remote in Ubuntu 8.04

It seems I may have overestimated the wiimote's hardware.
I have ordered an $8 AA powered emitter bar, it should be here in 2 to 5 days.

I just bought a wiimote just to use as a mouse with my new ubuntu dell, and getting it to work was about trivial, but there are three problems I'm having:

  19. Re: Putting an end to wasted display area, gnome 3.0 style.

For the window list, I'd recommend trying out every possibility.

    Try this one:
If it's not the window in focus, it should only be an icon with no text.
  20. Re: Putting an end to wasted display area, gnome 3.0 style.

This concept is changing rapidly. My thinking has been overhauled, and I have code behind my idea now.

The only thing left to do is get a window list applet that's worth something. (tab widgets...
  21. Re: Putting an end to wasted display area, gnome 3.0 style.

MNICY: Yeah, that's probably how I'd do it. One hand on the keyboard, one hand on the mouse during intense usage..

Sometimes, though, I like to just use one hand to navigate the GUI, so I'd...
  22. Re: Putting an end to wasted display area, gnome 3.0 style.

By the way, Loky, you could put the window title wherever the heck you want. Again, this is only /one/ out of a nearly infinite set of gui possibilities.
  23. Re: Putting an end to wasted display area, gnome 3.0 style.

Yes, I have been made aware of that. I have also withdrawn from my japanese course. (lojban, here I come.)

  25. Re: Putting an end to wasted display area, gnome 3.0 style.

A 4 pixel thick grab bar containing nothing.

The title applet in the panel or wherever could also, when you click and hold on it, transfer all motion from your mouse into the in-focus window...
