    Re: Problems updating Ubuntu 18.04

    Please don't post large graphics to the forums. This is very problematic for helpers with low speeds, who are on limited data plans, or are viewing from smartphones or small screens.

    If you must...
  4. Re: Need help interpreting Dmesg to fix boot problem

    Try:
    cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resumeIf the UUID after:
    RESUME=UUID=xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx…is still your old swap UUID, then edit with:
    sudo nano...
  5. Re: Need help interpreting Dmesg to fix boot problem

    Ah!

    That's an awfully good showing of detective work and self-reliance. So you did share the swap between Ubuntu and Arch. That is more than likely the culprit right there.

    I use the same swap...

    If you change the following line in GRUB from:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"…to:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""…then:
    sudo update-grub…it will eliminate the masking splash screen...

    Welcome to the forums bradlivingstone1,

    You have good instincts. Timestamps are a good indicator and there are a number of ways to examine them.

  9. Re: Corrupted ext4 partition - advice how to recover?

    At least it's good to know that the final result was not complete disaster. When it comes to HDD problems, small victories are still victories.

    And don't sell yourself short. Your first post...
  10. Re: I broke apt - pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by

    Lots of good advice from dino99 and deadflowr. I don't want to overwhelm you with advice, so:

    Try their suggestions first.
    Answer their questions/post back findings.

    Neither do I! :lolflag:

    This is rich. You come here looking for detailed help and get nothing from me but a blast of over‑generalized bombast that may not even apply to your specific issue. ...

    Please provide more than just bare-bones info:

    Why are you trying to install a 32-bit system library in Focal??? 32-bit has been deprecated. It will be especially bad in something like mesa.

    Re: What is this status icon?

    Are you sure? My research shows the thunderbolt icons to all be variants of a lightning bolt, as one would expect. If I were to guess what your icon means, it would be something to do with system...

    [ubuntu] Re: pi4 20.04 64bit installing jav 32bit

  22. Re: GDM Error when trying to log in using LDAP with a username starting with a number

    This has caused problems for many before you. The problem is one of ambiguity. Beneath the user‑friendly surface layer, Linux actually uses numeric UIDs and so must map alphabetic usernames to those...
