  2. Re: How to quick-erase an existing ext4 partition, to make it empty and fresh as new?

well I removed it from /dev/mapper with dmsetup remove then opened it again with cryptsetup open, then I was able to mount again
  3. Re: How to quick-erase an existing ext4 partition, to make it empty and fresh as new?

well I thought I had succeeded, but looks like actually I messed everything up as I had feared.

After issuing the mkfs.ext4 command, the filesystem was there and worked fine, mounted where...
  4. Re: How to quick-erase an existing ext4 partition, to make it empty and fresh as new?

The complicating factors are the encryption system, auto-mounting on startup and with mount command, and my being a relative n00b.

I did the following and it seemed to work:

    A)
    unmount...

  9. any way to change logging level of gdm3? syslog being filled with junk

    Howdy,

When i look in /var/log/syslog, the (literal) vast majority of text in there consists of repeated outputting of the state of the NVIDIA graphics driver, 24/7/365.24.
    I am getting the...
  10. Re: modifer keys have decided they want to randomly stick!

hmm have changed mouse to a different, wired mouse and this still happened :(

  11. modifer keys have decided they want to randomly stick!

Howdy... I am having a bit of an issue with modifier keys. Specifically, ctrl and shift.

Im using a thermal take RGB keyboard with Ubuntu 20.04 on a razer blade pro 2019 17".

    Just yesterday I...

  13. Re: Can someone help, issue with mount point versus directory with Back in Time backu

    Nice idea.

Also good to know I'm not just being dumb and missing something obvious with this issue :)
  14. Can someone help, issue with mount point versus directory with Back in Time backups

Howdy all. I am relatively new to using Linux (ubuntu) as my main OS. I love the concept of mount points, it's obviously super powerful.

However I ran into an issue with back in time that kind of...
  15. Re: ubuntu freezes and the most stable/freeze-proof graphics driver

Well, I believe you have diagnosed the problem correctly. I removed openrazer and it's been 2 days, problem has not recurred. Thank you!
  16. Re: Question about the "super" or "left win" key and desired behavior

For now I just chose the "Ctrl is mapped to win and the usual control keys", which achieves my goals other than facilitating the use of the key as a command key when connected to a macOS host.
  17. Re: ubuntu freezes and the most stable/freeze-proof graphics driver

openrazer is gone! hopefully the problem not to recur again!
  18. Re: ubuntu freezes and the most stable/freeze-proof graphics driver

I may have been jumping to conclusions that it was the video driver that was at fault... it's just that I see an error related to the video drivers at basically the same time the system froze and...
  19. [all variants] Re: Full encryption for Ubuntu: Why isn't this taken seriously?

I agree, for the large majority of users, according to the threat model they are protecting against with encryption, it's not a big deal that /boot is not encrypted.

    There are some, though, for...
  20. Re: ubuntu freezes and the most stable/freeze-proof graphics driver

Actually I didn't offer any reasoning in favor of anything, I am asking a question. Thank you for providing this wisdom regarding reality. I shall proceed accordingly guided by your kind debunking.
  21. Re: ubuntu freezes and the most stable/freeze-proof graphics driver

    yes, thank you.

im just wondering which driver would be the most stable/least likely to crash. nvidia puts out new versions for various reasons, compatibility with new games, new features, etc....
  22. Question about the "super" or "left win" key and desired behavior

Howdy, could I check on if it's possible to do what I want with the left win/super key?

What I would like it to do is:

-function as ctrl in ubuntu, eg, ctrl-c and v for copy and paste.

    Now I...
  23. Re: ubuntu freezes and the most stable/freeze-proof graphics driver

    The command $nvidia-settings yields
    version 440.64

However the "additional drivers" tab in software reports it as 400.

Im assuming it really is 440.64 and just registers as 400 for some...
  24. ubuntu freezes and the most stable/freeze-proof graphics driver

    To all,

I was delighted recently to switch to linux on a razer blade pro 17" early 2019. It's great, love everything about it and love the community as well.

Having a minor issue, twice so far...
  25. [all variants] Re: Full encryption for Ubuntu: Why isn't this taken seriously?

Ok so I did the install, using luks1 to be safe :) I understand that it is possible to convert to LUKS2 in the future so I will consider doing that sometime. :)
