Poll: Re: What Music Player Do You Use?

    Foobar2000

None of the linux native players come close, and it works great in Wine. If Exaile gained a few more features and stopped glitching on me I would consider switching.

Re: Is Sage Math in the repos?

Thanks! I nabbed a few of those, haven't played around with them yet, but I will certainly. Sage doesn't offer much for stats, and Scilab is very similar to MATLAB in syntax, so i'll be using Scilab...

  8. Re: what would be involved in implementing video streams in a bit torrent client?

It could be a viable option for video sites, imagine youtube or hulu sources and whatnot using torrent technology while you watch their videos. They still provide the vast majority of the bandwidth,...

    Re: Campaign For Non-MS Option

Re: Best Microphone for voice acting?

Loads of options, for voice acting only it's hard to go wrong with any professional mic. Any quality condenser mic with a pop filter will do you good. Even a standard dynamic mic will work wonders.

Re: What do your friends/family think of Ubuntu?

My aunt LOVES it. Their XP install was an endless source of malware. I installed Ubuntu 7.10 on her computer a few years back and she never wants Windows on her machine again. I'm going over there to...

Poll: Re: Do you use 32bit or 64bit?

64-bit, various benchmarks show 64-bit edging out 32-bit in Ubuntu. It seems as if nearly every 64-bit related issue/glitch has sorted itself out in one way or another as well.

    Re: Consistent Audio Volume

Replaygain is exactly what you want. It reads the average volume of each track, then adds a tag to tell the player how much to boost or reduce the volume of the song to reach 89db average. This means...
  14. Re: Anyone ever upgrade their video card fan/heatsink?

While Arctic Cooling officially says to use the $9.99 Turbo Module with the S1 on 9600GT (the two fans in the second link I gave above), there are people who run the Accelero S1 on 8800gt's fanless...
  15. Re: Anyone ever upgrade their video card fan/heatsink?

I always put aftermarket cooling on my video cards. Stock fans are usually terrible for noise.

The Accelero S1 with the Turbo Module is a cheaper option that will work great:

    Re: Fixing problems in Microsoft?

Fixing Windows after bouts of malware can take far more time than backing up and reinstalling (though most viruses mean TKO, and a format is in order). Even after getting everything back to...

Well let me throw you an example. An operating system can only send a process the the CPU to be executed. If the program decides to split the operation over two cores, it has to figure out the fine...
