Re: USB stick is stuck (pun intended)

When my flash drives die, some times they become read only and some times they do nothing.
I think all these multi layer large drives they are making now, just don't have any endurance.
  3. [xubuntu] Re: read-only file system usb flash drive

The method shown here https://askubuntu.com/a/1176695/43926 mentions UNetbootin but should work for adding persistence to an extracted system as I understand you have.

  6. Re: Ubuntu trial on USB memory stick as a 'recovery' tool?

You should be able to use the Live USB to boot your computer and access it's files as long as you did not overwrite your Windows partition.
In that case some people have had luck with Linux data...
  7. Re: boot windows installation iso without flash drive/DVD on GRUB

I use GParted. Disks will also work.

The menuentry above has "set root='hd0,gpt1'"

Disks would call that partition sda1

So if Disks lists the partition as sdb2, you would use 'hd1,gpt2'.

It still works fine, as long as lightdm is installed and guest=true is activated.
  14. Re: How to create bootable USB from Ubuntu ISO image?

The version I tried asked for a floppy disk, it would take 2000 floppies to hold an Ubuntu ISO. give rawwrite a try. If it works please post a link.
  15. Re: How to create bootable USB from Ubuntu ISO image?

    Herman
I just gave rawwrite a try and it only wants to write .img files to floppy disks.
Etcher clones ISO files to USB okay and is as easy to use as rawwrite.

  18. Re: How to create bootable USB from Ubuntu ISO image?

Rufus, Etcher, Ventoy, Universal and Win32DiskImager are worth trying if UNetbootin is not working. First check the ISO's MD5SUM to make sure it is not corrupt.
