Re: apt-fast : A Bash Script to Speed Things Along

Glad everyone likes it! While I've moved away from using Ubuntu a long time ago, I still try and maintain the script and manage pull requests when I can...I do still use Debian for my servers,...

Re: apt-fast : A Bash Script to Speed Things Along

12/22/2011: I've moved development of apt-fast to github. Note that the current version I have not tested yet, so I need testers...and users...and people to improve apt-fast and put in pull requests...

Re: apt-fast : A Bash Script to Speed Things Along

Nice! Are you the same guy that emailed me?

I really need to set this up on github or launchpad...

Without having to trace through, care to tell us what it is you did to make it better?

Re: apt-fast : A Bash Script to Speed Things Along

I use Archlinux now, but I updated the script...

There are some modded versions that work with aria2c there too...contributed by users...PCLinuxOS people and Ubuntu users both have been making it...
  6. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

"Owner?" It's opensource...there's no such thing. I don't mind..I appreciate it, in fact.

You all may want to note that the Zen official repo is down at the moment. For the time being, use...
  7. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

Glad you figured it out. I'm actually still using .27-zen3 due to laziness on my part.

I migrated to Arch from Ubuntu, so that's why I'm not much help anymore with Ubuntu-specific stuff.

    I...
  8. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

Yes, reclone. Just run the script again and it should do it.
  9. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

You should try pulling again, and if that doesn't work make clean in the source directory.

And yes, that's the same Waninkoko. In irc.freenode.net #zen-sources he hangs around, and so do other...
  10. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

That's for uses outside of Ubuntu. Ubuntu does all of that for you just by installing the DEBs.
  11. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

You should then still have the packages in /usr/src, so check to see if your new kernel is in there, as everything was built, the bash script just messed up at the end...this should work:

    ...
  12. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

Sorry about that. I'll add those packages to the script when I add colors back into it.
  13. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

Now updated, buildZen v2 should work with pretty much any distro, now. It's easiest still with debian based distros, as for all others it checks to see if an automatic build system is in place like...
  14. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

The repo was moved, please change all instances of the git://zen-sources.org/zen/kernel.git to http://git.zen-sources.org/kernel/zen.git . The repo isn't quite populated yet, so wait until tonight or...
  15. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

Don't compile OSS in, but do compile the OSS mixer API that is part of ALSA, as it emulates OSS so that certain programs still can output sound...this may be somethign to report to the Zen-Sources...
  16. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

Is the alsa userspace daemon installed?
  17. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

Enable AES crypto in the Cryptography section of the kernel, and then you should also either find the apparmor module source, or just remove apparmor...it actually speeds boot...
  18. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

Try editing the script so it dumps everythign in your home directory. Replace every instance of /usr/src/ with /home/you.

Don't forget to remove the old /usr/src/kernel folder...that's a big...
  19. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

I don't advocate it, but try running as superuser.

    sudo su

    Then run the script.
  20. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

    Ook...

Ummm...try chmoding the /usr/src/kernel folders and files recursively.

Then, if that doesn't work, add yourself to the src group.
  21. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

You need to disable the Toshiba stuff in the kernel config...the toshiba laptop extras, I think it's called...I will let the devs know so they can hopefully fix.
  22. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

I need to see all of the stuff leading to the error to tell you.
  23. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

    sudo rm -r /usr/src/kernel

    then, sudo chown /usr/src/

    Better safe than sorry:
    sudo chmod -R 777 /usr/src/
  24. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

You could try that...remove the sources, and try again. Make sure to run the script as root.

If that doesn't work, try chowning the directories to root.
  25. Re: 2.6.24 Zen Ubuntu Kernel - Faster, Stable, More Hardware Support

Oh...and 2.6.26-zen1 is out. You should all update your source trees and rebuild!
