[kubuntu] Re: Kubuntu Nearly Blank Screen

Never mind. I found the solution on another forum.

    Thanks.

OH! The solution! It was just a matter of deleting the ~/.kde directory. KDE then rebuilds it to defaults upon relog.

[kubuntu] Ubuntu Nearly Blank Screen in KDE

OK, I think I have an idea what the problem is, but I still need some help testing it.

I think it is an incompatibility with display settings. I need to be able to reset the KDE display back to...

[ubuntu] Re: Suspend to Disk Restore Problem (Bug?)

Update on this problem that nobody wants to touch.

I finally filled the swap partition upon suspension. As it was shutting down, it gave an error message that said the swap was full. And then it...

    [ubuntu] Re: Spell Checker Confusion

While browsing through the packages offered, I noticed a couple of English packages that were not loaded:

    language-pack-en
    language-pack-kde-en
So, I installed them. I have yet to see a change,...

    [ubuntu] Re: Spell Checker Confusion

    Oh.

    But isn't there a common dictionary file? Or does every app have it's own dictionary file (like Windows apps)? {I thought Linux did things a little smarter than Winbloats.}

    Barring that,...

    [ubuntu] Re: Spell Checker Confusion

dcstar, what do you mean "what package?"

It came on a two-sided DVD, in a magazine (one side was 32-bit, the other 64-bit; I loaded the 64-bit). Kernel 2.6.27-7-generic if that helps.

    fragos,...

In my newly installed Ubuntu 8.10, I noticed that I was being flagged for incorrectly spelled words that I KNEW were correctly spelled. After a while, I realized that the spell-checker was using UK...

[ubuntu] Suspend to Disk Restore Problem (Bug?)

    Hi All,

I've noticed a little problem with Ubuntu while using the "Suspend to Disk" shut down option. Actually, two problems.

    1) When coming back from suspension, I noticed that the swap...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu & GRUB d/n See My SATA HDD

Thank you for all your help. After trying those settings, I guess i'll have to try contacting DFI. Maybe a BIOS upgrade is necessary.

    Thanks again,

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu & GRUB d/n See My SATA HDD

Setting it to IDE was how it has been set, originally. When I set it to RAID, that drive disappeared from the list entirely (and still doesn't show in the fdisk listing).

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu & GRUB d/n See My SATA HDD

    All I could find is:
Under SATA Mode: IDE, RAID, AHCI
If IDE is chosen, then "Onboard JMB36X Controller" becomes available for for (En/Dis)able.
I left it set at AHCI.
    There is an...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu & GRUB d/n See My SATA HDD

Yes, it has the "AHCI" option. What will this do to the data that is already on the drive? (I haven't booted to XP after selecting that option).

    sudo fdisk -lu

    Disk /dev/sda: 40.0 GB,...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu & GRUB d/n See My SATA HDD

Yes, I've tried the windows entry. It freezes up. Which is not a surprise, because that is old and no longer valid -- it was from an entirely different system.

My problem is not what GRUB shows!...
